If I'd kept that rooster I could have named him "The Situation".

So I'm thinking of getting a pet duck for my dad so when I move out in a year or so he wont be lonely (taking my cat and dog with me) what breed of duck would be good??? I'm thinking a pekin duck but I dont know. Any tips hints or ideas would be great thanks

HI! Good to see you

If I wanted a pet duck, muscovy is my first pick. they are much cleaner than a pekin.
They are also quackless, they peep or whisper. And do well in a pet situation too!
I know a young lady that keeps one in the house with a diaper

I have a quad and really enjoy them a lot more than my pekin.
As babies, came home in a minnow bucket lol!:

Young adults:

The hens are just exceptionally sweet. The hen on the right is my favorite girl Huey, a black pied.
She will fly clear across the property and perch on my shoulder

bottom is the drake Stanley, Spaz is the black barred, We lost her last spring to the fox attacks.
Chocolate barred is Donald. We also have a Chocolate pied not pictured, Huey is her mom.
Hence her name, "Baby Huey"

Youngest DD named them, she wanted all boys.
We have more female everything here, just our luck, LOL.

Hi animallover! Good to hear from you!

What are your plans when you graduate this spring? Or are you sick of people asking that question? haha
A cat might be an easier pet for your Dad! All I hear about is how messy ducks are. They are pretty cute, though! Ducks are social, just like chickens so you'd have to get more than one. Here's a link with some basic info:
How to Care for a Pet Duck: 5 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow (Step #1 says to get at least two)

She just walked right up to me it the den, looking at me like...Hey! I am cold! Help me get back in my cage!
DH said, "hey there's your bird!" She found me all the way at the other end of the house, what a stinker!

jchny~ Ooooh ~ I like the idea of a quackless duck! My chickens can get noisy when they're begging (I'm afraid they trained me instead of vice versa). Muscovies are wild ducks, right? Like the ones that walk down my street. But they're bred and sold for pets? Why are yours so pretty and some have red barnacles ---lol-- on their faces? Does bradselig breed these? That's the important question! hahaha

M2H i think its a great idea on the ball. I know several people use them.
Once one of them get a taste, they will go crazy for it!
Well, that's what I thought, but then I heard Nene say, "What are you trying to feed us now -- Grease?!"

I'm glad your tiny bird walked a long, long way to find you! That's pretty amazing. How sweet.

jchny~ I think you mentioned having a friend in Australia. I ran across these photos of an Australian Brush Turkey chick and a young turkey recently when I was looking for something else. The chick is so cute and fuzzy!

I love the shape and clean lines of this older one.
