INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

sorry for your lose do you know what got a hold of it?
We're not real sure. Whatever killed her did not eat her. Just tore out part of her side disemboweling her. I had laid straw down around the coop area so there were no tracks to be found except OUTSIDE the fenced in area. I found fresh raccoon and dog tracks. So I'm not sure if the coon made it in the fence and killed her and was interrupted by the neighbor dog, or a dog got in and killed her. and the coon tracks just happened to be there...

The link and information I posted came from the same place you are quoting. Araucanas are not always tufted and rumpless. This is because it is thought they were produced by breeding two different breeds down in chile prior to importation. One breed was tufted and had a tail, the other lacked tufts and rumpless. So Araucanas have the genetics to produce a chick with a combo of either of those traits.

The link I posted goes into great lengths talking about how the SOP was formed for the araucana to be rumpless and tufted. This left out the breeders who had bearded muffed and tailed "Araucanas". They then started their own groups calling their bird the "American Araucana" but later voted on changing the name to "Ameraucana".

I highly suggest anyone interested in the history of the Araucana and Ameraucana to read link I posted earlier. It goes into great details (yes boring at times) about the history with names and dates to back it up.

I read the whole thing and loved it. Very informational.

how can you get mice out of your house my cat killed 3 last week and then today my dad seen a mouse run across the floor we have 2 mouse traps set and 4 rat poisions out but ig there not going to them is there an easyer way to get them and kill them???

In my cases before the coon took off with the body. I had a dog attack before and they just tore apart the body and left it there.

I was kind of leaning towards a dog, as they don't usually eat the birds, just kill them for fun. We've had 2 different dogs in the past week, (one just the day before), that have went after our birds. The neighbor who had the more recent one came over and apologized and said they would keep her penned up, but who knows.. The only thing that puzzles me if it was the dog, is that they will kill ALL birds not just the one, and the gander and our 3 ducks were not injured, just the hen. So I am wondering if a dog interrupted a raccoon in the process and chased it off.. that is why she wasn't eaten. I'm getting to the point of maybe buying a trailcam and setting it up to see what we are really dealing with.
