INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Aww, poor lily. I have vet rx, it is like glorified vapor rub, but I have had work for some eye inflammation before. I have never used tylan. Maybe give one a try for a few days and then switch if you see no improvement. I hope her eye gets better!
How do I use the vet rx? I have her in a dog kennel now. The rest of the flock has been exposed, but they are all on antibiotics too, so hopefully it will prevent them from getting it.

Here is miss lilys eye. I bought tylan today and vet rx. She has duramycin in her water, but I would like to give her vitamins and acv. Anyone have any suggestions on the vet rx, or which antibiotic is better? I have't given her the vet rx or tylan yet.

I agree, depending on what is causing it, one might work better, but hard telling which one, I've also treated with triple antiboitic ointment, put in the eye, sometimes it has worked and other times I've had to try something else. I've never put Vetrx in an eye, I've dropped in in the nostrils, so not sure if people are putting it in the eye or not.

hi, I'm in S. In., near Louisville.

Just read Carol Deppe's book "The Resilient Gardener and have fallen for her description of the Holderread Anconas.

I'd love to start an Ancona flock from someone local - anyone have some?

Welcome! My son wanted Anconas for his birthday so we ordered ours in June from Stromberg's -- had to order a minimum of 15 (straight run) & they threw in an extra. They started laying the end of October. We're new to ducks/Anconas so I don't know how well the ducks we received match the standard and which should be ones to cull if we were to breed. There is an Ancona thread on BYC you might want to check out if you haven't already.

Thanks! I put some under her wings, on her comb and wattles. I am cautiously optimistic, but her bubbles are suddenly gone. Her one eye has a very tiny opening, but they arent swelling shut anymore. She ate and drank a ton and was running around when I let her out to check on her. I will stick with the duramycin for awhile and keep giving her the vet rx and see how she does. She is sneezing more as her eyes get better, so I think it may be sinus pressure that is moving. I put some vet rx in a spray bottle with warm water and misted it over the flock per the vet rx instructions. Its supposed to help if they have been exposed. I didn't spray much because I didn't want to soak my den, or the silkies. Everyone else acts fine still. I hate this winter. They should be outside getting fresh air. I feel bad they are still inside, but putting them out now would shock them too badly.

I'm really excited as i finally got 2 brown eggs today from my girls

I think they are from Miss Daisy and Emma my 2 GLW but Ebony a BA(that's the abbreviation for black austrulorp right?)could be another option.

just wanted to share pictures of these very very rare chickens lolololol the top one is our "chill" border collie in my signature. He is very content laying at my feet bought he thought it would be more appropriate for a couch picture. The bottom one is of our lab/border collie mix. For some reason she only likes side profile pictures because every time i tried to take a picture she would turn her head just at the last second. Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far.

I went to orschlens in greenfield today just to "scout" things out. No chicks yet!!! But its for the best because i have the 5 BLRW coming at the end of Feb, can't wait!!!!!!!!!! Did however pick up some yummy wild rice soup while i was there and made it tonight for dinner and ohhhh was it good!! Now i'm off to read the book that i got there as well.
