Just an FYI, Big R has Nutrena layer feed 50# bags on sale for $9.99 and 1 gal plastic waterers for $3.99! I got my 2 weeks worth of feed today and had to get a rain check for the waterers. They must be like Lowes and not check inventory levels BEFORE the sale starts!


Ohh forgot the mention they also had cracked corn for $6.79 per 50# bag. I've never bought just corn, so not sure if that is a good price or not. Just thought I'd add it too.

Wow! Wish I was closer. That is a good price on corn. How long does the sale last? maybe I could make it over there before it ends

I was just wondering the same thing... And curious if Indy has a Big R. Lol that would save me some money if there's one around Indy and the sale was going on while I was in the area (around the 19th).

On the health of deep litter, thought I'd post this article. It's not the only one out there but it's one that's worth reading. I found it very interesting that having a bit of ammonia in the litter actually helps fight some things. We've been so conditioned to be afraid of ammonia that we don't use it to our advantage. (This is in a small amount! Not an overload!!!!)

My other disclaimer is that I WOULD NOT USE LIME in the deep litter even though this article mentions it. There are types of lime that can burn and cause other health issues.

Oh please don't do that!!!! I can see some veining in most all of them!!! My light isn't great, need new batteries I guess, there is one or two that look like possibly detached airsacs but they've almost all got some veining so I'm not handling them hoping that the less I touch em the better off they'll be. I'll candle again around day 10 and see what's happening. Don't worry was going to PM you this eve and update you. I know how you feel, kinda like a soon to be first time Grandma that's out of state. Lol. Were you able to make a claim with the PO?

I havent done the claim yet. It keeps slipping my mind with the chaos around here. A farm in this weather is pretty time consuming. I am soooooooooooooo happy you have some development. I was worried. I haven't gotten your check yet, but I wan't going to cash it until you got some chicks anyway. I don't make people pay for nothing.

My eggs went into lockdown last night, they are due to hatch Saturday. I started with a dozen, had to pitch one that started stinking a few days ago. I know when I candled them at day 14 there was development in most all the eggs from what I could tell, but I'm not experienced at it yet.

When I took the auto turner out I definitely heard peeping coming from one egg. I had a bit of trouble getting the temp evened back out (it was a few degrees low for a couple hours) but it finally settled.

I just checked them again and the egg that was making noise yesterday has already pipped. I'm surprised, it's two days early. Hope he/she makes it out by morning.

I appreciate the gesture, thank you. Is ok if you would rather not do a claim, I'll leave that up to you. I'm happy with the eggs that survived their rugged handling and hope we get some sweet fuzzy butts to show for all your efforts! Please do cash the check though. If something happens where they don't hatch we can deal with it then. I'll be heading to Indiana on the 19th to pick up my Hortsman order (either from Brad or Lilmizcareall) but hav t hurry back because they are supposed t go into lockdown that evening (I think). By then I will know how many viable ones I have. U sent 15 BTW,
6 were lost so there are 9 still working. We all take a risk with shipped eggs and you've bn more than generous including the extras. Oh Jeesh I'm rambling... Been a. Long day, going t head to bed because tomorrow doesn't look to be any easier a day. Will update you as soon as next candling. Thank you again!!!

I think the closest Big R to Indy is out in Crawfordsville. I wish there was one around though.
