INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

What kind of meds do you have? Boil a teaspoon of salt in a cup of water and let it cool, homemade saline solution. I tried duramycin 10 and it didn't help, only the tylan helped, but you can try what you have and see if she improves. The neosporin might be the best bet. She may just have something in her eye, but it looks pretty goopy, so my gut says respiratory.
I have terramycin, clindamycin hydrochloride liquid, penicillin injectable, liquamycin LA-200, triple antibiotic eye ointment, thats all the meds I have.

Honestly, I like Kabs advice better than mine lol. I think she is right. My girls eye did this in summer and it was crusty, sealed shut because her eyes were watering. Yours does look more gunky. I just thought it might be something easy to try, a lot of people have it around the house. Contact solution should work too
ok I don't have any contact stuff either.

Try the terramycin. I think I read it works really well for eye stuff too. Does your triple antibiotic have pain killer in it? If it doesn't I would wipe her eye out with a warm damp cloth, or make that saline solution, and then put some antibiotic ointment in it.

My silkies need to go outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is spring????

I used the terramycin right off the bat, and the antibiotic ointment does not so will put that in there. I went down and cleaned her up a bit more now that she has calmed down and she has been beat up. her beek don't close cause it is crocked, she has a few cuts below the eye and in front of the eye, I got her eye lid open enough to see her eye is still there. she has raw places around her ears and just all over that side of her head. I feed her some water and she was thirsty, do you think her beek will ever be able to eat and drink again?
This really sucks she is my favorite EE and she is one of the chickens I got from chickcrazed, she is going to be mad.

She may have been injured and got an infection, so either way the saline, ointment and antibiotics will help her. When she heals up, I would bring one of your other hens into the house with her. Let them bond and then put them back out with the flock. You may have to do the playpen method (cage her in the coop so the other chickens can see but not touch) for awhile, maybe with a buddy, until they lose interest in picking on her. My large flock, fourteen of them, have been in a 33 x 25 area of the pole barn with our alpacas since november. In order to keep them busy, we give them a flock block, and scratch twice a day. They don't pick on each other at all. 3 roos and 11 hens. I think chickens get bored easily, and your little hen may have made an easy target. If you have to keep her and another hen inside until you have grass outside again. Maybe the flock will be so busy they won't notice her. If you can see which one is bullying the others, separate it for awhile to knock it down the pecking order a bit.

yep I will have to do that, I just don't understand why all the sudden they or 1 is going after her, she has been locked up with them for a mth, due to the weather, it gets nice out and I let them out to free range and this happens!! Just don't get it and she was higher in the pecking order too???

got to figure out something wet to feed her that I can give her. cause she cant use her beek?

I'm having a scrolling problem to. don't have eye drops and don't get paid till Monday, will keep washing it with warm water till then.
chick rookie ~ Sorry about your hen's eye! The second remedy in this list is for an eye wash.
Not sure if you happen to have Boric Acid on hand, if not, just put the money toward buying what Kabhyper suggested since she has just gone through having chicken eye problems.

In general, just to be safe, I'd boil your water to a rolling boil for one minute, and let it cool before using. There have been human deaths associated with using tap or well water in a Neti Pot (for sinus problems) instead of using distilled or boiled water. I'm mentioning this because any water that is put in eyes or noses should be sterile because those areas are close to the brain. I'm referring to humans, but I'd say that the warnings also apply to chickens and other animals.

Just fyi to anyone interested in putting Boric Acid in your first aid kit, drug stores sell it.

chick rookie ~ I posted the boric acid eye wash info to try this weekend until you can purchase meds Kabhyper told you about. I am Not suggesting that you use it instead of meds.

I don't know how much land you have, but we bought a new john deere 790 in 2007. Its classified as a "compact tractor".  It has a side discharge mower, and live PTO. We have about 3 acres of field we mow with our bush hog attachment too, feed that to the goats, cow and pigs. We have several attachments, including a front end loader. I have had no issues with it, none..(knock on wood, hehe) Its been priceless. It was a big investment but there is few projects we need heavy equipment for now. We still plan for the backhoe, feed grinder and tiller attachments. No more worries over moving heavy objects, plowing snow and we even fill the kiddie pools out in the yard for the waterfowl with the bucket on the front, LOL. I hate dragging garden hoses everywhere!

We have 10 acres but we only maintain about 1.5-2 I think. Much of our property is a ravine but the rest is mixed terrain. We have had a lot of work done to get some flat yard and getting things to drain betterbut there is still much more I'd like to do. When we first had the house there was a HUGE pool too but I had it filled in. It was one of the best things we have done here. Here are a few pics:

The first area is our dog yard. The second is our front yard. The third is our ravine that doesn't look like much now but it's really lovely in the spring. It's our backyard. My Dh has plans for a zip line and a cleared area for sledding in the winter. :D
