INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Finally caught up! I think my BO might be molting she has been loosing feathers and hasn't laid in a while. Others still keep laying. I have 26 eggs in the fridge right now. We need to get eating lol.
Okay so we went to a 4-H project night last night (its a new thing that informs kids about a few different projects once a month) and went to the dairy foods judging. Just like napoleon dynatmite (anyone else ever watched that movie?) my brother and I were cracking up. I felt so sick after having all the those nasty dairy products lol.

I have a few molting too, wish they coulda waited another month tho!

First visit to Rural King EVER! What a difference from my local feed stores! This last knew her chicks, for sure!! Way to go Bloomington Rural King and the associate, Terina!! I will be back soon!
Glad it was a good experience, and thanks for sharing it!

Ok question for the senior Master incubater/hatcher, I have two hatched Marans, one at about 2:30pm yesterday and one at 1:00am thus morning, now they are doing fine. I have not seen a peep outbid any of the other 6 eggs left?? Is it still early (today is the 21'st day for the set! Am I just being impatient with them? Or are the rest duds? Please need advice! Thanks
I will leave eggs up to 5 days past due date IF there is no odors.

We got bored today and drove up to Kendallville. Their Tsc had 7 EE's.
I couldn't just leave them there now could I? That would be irresponsible. I rescued them. Dh says no more chick for like 2 years. LOL that's what he thinks.

Our summer water trough has become a indoor brooder for 7 EE's and the two ducklings, who by the way are now both doing great after some electrolytes, and are loving their new brooder buddies.

Not sure the dark one is EE. The other chicks in the bin were black sexlinks and leghorns, so I know she isn't one of those either. All supposed to be pullets.

I love this, "hey you not a chiken"!

So how can you tell what color an EE will be as an adult? Or can't you?

Yes you kinda can but depends on age. Chicks hard to tell. As they get older you can start to tell. For example peaches started out looking white then you could see little brown showing, it looked like just dirty feathers. Then as she got older the brown really started to spread. This is about the same with all ee's just different colors. I have some that was grey and and had patches of brown. How this helps alittle. Lol i love ee's always a mystery at first.

It is like trying to figure out what color egg they will lay. You can't. Two identical chicks could look completely different as adults or visa versa. Unless you get like a yellow chick, they usually end up pure white or white with ticking, they won't end up with a wild pattern. But with the chipmunk it is just a guessing game.

I have 2 pasty butts that I cant get over it!! What do I do? 4 day olds.

iamfivewire ~ Very pretty!
animallover~ Nice job! I like the detail and imagery of Adriana gazing at the squirrel scurrying and suddenly remembering something. Most people can relate to those moments when you're staring at something while thinking of something totally different.

DH told me tonight he is working on a project for a new "coop". I about fell over when he told me!
Its a shipping container like the semi's haul from the shipping docks. WOW. 53'x8' wide.
His plan is to turn this into breeding coops! He is working on a swap/trade deal to get it.
The issues I see is natural light getting in but he said he has a lot of ideas for that, as well as ventilation.
Would get pretty hot in the summer, so we have details to work out. They are made of very heavy thick steel.
Definitely predator proof tho! I am thinking about 8 separate runs, that will cover all the breeds/species I am most interested in.
Utility & feed area.. pretty exciting! I will still keep a separate egg flock for my "pets".
These are the misfits that have an eye pecked out, or other issues.. my original flock birds that are 2 years old plus.
The extra roos that are sweet and friendly, the oddball breeds I have not had good luck with hatching

Chickens etc. that will be here till they pass from old age, and won't ever be sold, bred or rehomed.

Kab-can't find the post but it said something about you having a really dark EE chick. Though I remember I couldn't see it very well in the pictures it is likely an EE. While chipmunk is the usual down color, you occssionally get the "oddball" light or darks

heres some I got last year, there are two production reds but all the others are EEs, the one off by itself is pretty dark
