INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

You're welcome. I really need to get some pica up of the chicks. I held four of them this morning. Two fell asleep in my palm the other two pooped on my shirt. :p little stinks but they're so adorable. I'll have to hold the two that conked out in my hand more often they were adorable!

I agree with Sally. Temp stability is more important than keeping the room exactly 70.

Thanks chick rookie. If he had been hit by a car I'm sure he would've made it. Been banged up good but alive but semi's. No, no matter what dog. I'm just glad it was quick and that he didn't hurt for too long.

Well, I should stop I'm bringing this place down.

as for the goats, we have no babies yet, I'm new to having babies so I probably got the signs wrong, but they are due any time. this waiting is driving me nuts...

My girl is home, the vet said she has really surprised him... She came out WALKING!!!!! well sort of she drags 1 leg but hey with a broken back that is GREAT. The vet just knew she would never walk again. He wants to give her 2 weeks to start using the other leg if not he will take it. and she has no control of her tail yet so may have to take that to, so she may end up a 3 legged no tailed puppy. but I'll take that over no puppy any day.

Thats great to hear! Hugs to your puppy.
My DH has cautioned me several times to carry my cell phone when I go to the chicken house in slick conditions. I try to do that but sometimes I forget. It's a good habit to get into though!
I am very bad about carrying my phone! DH fusses me all the time

M2H (Mother2Hens) can help you with it, she has created a lot of our avatars. I even have mine for my facebook avatar now!

Don't ever feel like you shouldn't share the bad stuff too, it feels better to talk it out. We all have good and bad days here!

Well even though Ive been good and not bought any chicks from the farm stores, I have been busy hatching my own chicks! Here are some pictures of the most recent hatches. There were multiple hatches that took place over about a weeks span. I still have two more Birchen Marans drying off in the incubator before moving to brooder.

Black modern bantam with my FIRST bantam cochin chick hatched from eggs produced by my birds!

3 Birchen Marans (again, 2 more still drying off in bator)

3 White silkies (atleast one is from my white flock)

Beautiful wyandotte from Kabhypers eggs.

2 Partridge showgirls

3 Blue silkies. Im very happy with how they turned out. Will be keeping 2 as hold backs.

Im not quite sure what color these silkies will be. They are like very light blue partridges.

And the mother load! 9 Blue Partridge silkies

3 partridge. The one on the right had a very hard time hatching and got stuck to its shell.

I also got updated pictures of the chicks that hatched a week or so prior to this hatch but will work on uploading them tomorrow.

Moved 5 ducklings to the grow out coop. There is a heat light out there since some of the birds in that coop are not fully feathered. The heat light is plugged into one of the themo cube outlets. Even with today's temps the light was not on for some of the day. The chickens, 2 adult ducks, and now 5 ducklings were creating a lot of body heat. Dh said he would check on the youngest ducklings as the temps went down. If they look cold we will bring them back inside. But for now, I'm trying so hard to get the stinkiest birds out of the basement.
I keep watching the weather and making a day by day plan of which of the little stinkers are moving out next.
You aren't kidding, I moved 5 out to my grow out coop today. Been out there several times already, they are doing great!

Hatching masters, how critical is room temp to the process? The instructions I got with the incubator say the room should be at 70* the room I have to incubate in is probably 60-65* will that be ok?
It should be fine. I keep my house cool, around 60. I have drafts tho, so I didn't get as good of a hatch rate. Our portion of the house, the garage area is insulated but not drywalled yet. When I put the bators in the dry pantry it really upped my hatch rate!

We have babies! Mil has 5 out. Ashes is doing great!
