INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Sitting here thinking about how I could have someone come in and "farm sit".. wow. Goats, cow, pig, turkey, chicken, guinea, peafowl, quail, duck, geese etc! Inside I just have 2 oscars, a huge pleco, a dinosaur fish and a featherfin cat. (2 tanks, 75gal Oscars and a 55gal for the others. Oscars would eat the other guys!) And a pug mix Sadie, lol! It would be expensive! Its at least 2 hours just to feed and water. Not even counting loving on them, free range time. Cleaning coops, egg collecting. I hope I am never faced with that, It would be impossible to find someone. My geese would not tolerate a stranger either, let alone my bucks. During breeding season, I even have to watch out for the ganders! They get really stupid crazy brave  Here is my first goose egg, compared to a pekin egg, (jumbo sized) OEGB and quail egg... They will get bigger as the season progresses! They aren't fertile yet, DH gets a nice batch of scrambled egg tomorrow! Its actually about 3 1/2" inches.
When I house sat for the veterinarian I worked for, I had to care for her 10 dogs (from English mastiffs to yorkies), 2 horses, barn cats and house cats, and fish, I think i gladly did it for like $20 a day. But I stayed at her house and she bought a bunch of food for me as well.if you could find a responsible teen that would be your best bet. Or a friend who owes you a favor lol

My fellow chicken lover in the family!

I look for cracks when candling, you can usually see them. And I mark porous eggs. Those rarely hatch.
Hairline cracks, u can seal with a crayon (CAREFULLY) and it will sometimes save the egg.
I hold the crayon in my hand a while so it gets pretty warm, and then "paint" the crack.
Watch the sealed crack in case its at pip line, it may cause the chick problems hatching. This has worked a few times!

I forgot to mention my Brinsea Brooder came today!!! They love it. I'm wondering if it is low enough for them though. I set it on the highest level for the ducks, so they didn't over heat. Any suggestions? I would prefer to not use my heat lamp anymore.

Does it need to be lower?
It looks perfect to me, they aren't piled up. So sweet!

I've got silkie eggs, who wants 'em?
I do, but I can't

I have to get coops rebuilt before I add anymore, My egg coop has me worried sick.
I moved the majority of my egg flock to the growout coop until the roof is repaired.
I am really concerned about predators. The roof is falling in, DH says we can just re-roof, ugh I hate ladders

Just feeling like posting pics tonight for some reason! Lol... Anyway this is our newest edition! Many thanks to PbirdHaven! I acquired a peahen from her at the Lebanon show..and now we have her a mate! They are in our garage at the moment til warmer weather allows pen to be built. He's really not fond of his chicken roommates (bantam Cochins) but he's slowly warming up to everyone. He just has his moments that he decides to pick on anyone that gets too close to him! Like many here I'm sure, we haven't been able to park in our 3 car garage all winter due to the occupants! ! Come On Spring!

Are EE's always so wild? Mine act like it's the first time they have seen a human everytime I approach the brooder. Crazy beasts! Plus at 6 days old they have full sets of wings.
Did you say they were at a farm store? Thats why. Kids grabbing them up, adults too. They get really timid, takes longer to realize you won't harm them.
My pullet chicks are getting better, but even pc noises startle them right now, poor things. I am dividing them up in totes as they grow, leghorns sure grow fast

all 8 look like 2 month olds, and are already nearly fully feathered!

Ok...next..
I really hate to put more eggs in the fridge! Girls are laying machines at the moment and I have Wayyy to many in there! Anyone interested in hatching eggs

I only have one EE but she's always been the only one that runs from me! Heck she's umm 2yrs old atleast.
Funny high strung little thing! The AMs I have are the same way tho.

Thanks brad and janet. :)

Ellymay, im in north eastern indiana, but I do ship eggs. My silkies lay every day and I dont want to refridgerate silkie eggs if I can sell them for hatching. So whenever you want them, let me know.

Quote: I do have one friend I would trust. Dated my oldest DD, and he and his "new" wife have been good friends several years now.
He would never charge either, he helps us with "rooster day" and I send home half with him

His wife Tammie is a treasure, just love her. They live in Anderson city limits and can't own chickens, livestock period.
Tammie wants to move out here, she just loves our place, and is over several times a week during summer.
Tammie can't do the "freezer camp" part of things and that's OK. Don hunts and has no problem with it.
I am really hoping they move closer! I have invited them to our thread, I think when they move they will both be joining!

And what a proud guy he is! Look at that face

Lovely! They do well around turkeys, I have 3 poults in with mine, and several misc chickens.
I love mine, they are very territorial about new residents tho. I still don't free range them. Not sure if I should, they really want to travel if they get out.
