Welcome to the best darn thread on BYC!! Glad you decided to join in the chicken craze! Lovely bunch here! You couldn't be luckier to be a Hoosier here! Or WVirginian in minmin1258's case! Lol!And don't forget about iamfivewire from Michigan! We love our honorary Hoosiers.Mandy![]()
As far as your new master bath, it will last a lot longer than a vacation. You can take a vacation in your mind while relaxing in that tub. You're probably too young to remember the TV commercials for Calgon bath beads. "Calgon, Take Me Away!"Here's a 17 second glimpse of one: Calgon commercial - YouTube![]()
Darling photo of your little boy with the roo! And pretty chickens and eggs!
Primal Momma ~ Those are both good ideas for Indiana get-aways!If you want to stay in state, you could spend the day at french lick casino, or do an over night at White Oak cabins at patoka lake. We stayed there a few years ago for our 5th ann. and LOVED it. I wish we could find time to go back. Pm me if you want any more info on it. Hope you can figure something out.
On another note, we should be getting our 25 BA pullets tomorrow morning!!!!!! I'm super anxious and excited!!![]()
So, are these 25 your first chickens? You'll have to post photos.
bradselig~ Yip, you can't get those at the farm stores! I really like those a lot, actually, they are growing on me. Very striking patterns. Hope they have a safe trip!![]()
Although the sun melting the ice is a good thing, my hens' feet have been coated with mud after walking back in from their spa dust baths these past two nights. I've had to wash their feet off and dry them with a towel before they went to bed since they all looked like they had big brown duck feet.![]()
jchny~ I think that bradselig would be the perfect animal sitter for you! But then he'd have to find a sitter . . .kabhyper ~ My EE Experience: I got my EE when she was a few months old because I traded her for one of Nene's brothers. lol We named her Road Runner for obvious reasons. When the guy brought her over, in a flash she was three backyards away hiding in a bush. Mine has always been very skittish, but she's come a long way. She'll walk across me when I'm on the ground with the hens and she'll act like a baby and stand right next to me, but if I barely touch her with one finger, she jumps about a mile up in the air! When I need to check her over, I have to wait until night when I can get a hold of her. Like the others, she has a distinct, interesting personality, and we love her large green-blue eggs. And OMG, I just saw your photos of those cute EE chicks with your ducks!![]()
Also, you had asked recently if anyone had peacocks that free ranged. I posted this photo last June-- this one reminds me of a bride walking down the aisle. ha The photo was taken at a landscaping business not too far from our house, but farther out in the country. They have chickens and several peacocks/hens that free range all over their property. An older family member lives on the property. As you can see, the peacocks walk around sampling the plants, and I've seen them standing on top of large trucks, too! lol I guess the owners don't worry about predators during the day since there are always people around.

Ok prob pic heavy and hope I don't annoy anyone here..it's just difficult to take good egg pics. Not to mention trying to avoid getting a messy countertop in the pic! Lol! I have 4 boys! Yep I went there...gonna blame them! Just easier that way! Haha
Sooo..i will just point out a few things. I used my bantam cochin, AM, BA, GCM and RIR eggs to compare the size of the BCM and Blue Marans eggs. The BA egg is the larger of all the others used. No pullet eggs here either. Well the tiniest is a pullet bantam egg. Threw that in there cuz it's cute!
This pic shows them standing upright in the carton with the lighter of them being my BA egg. I literally can not close the carton!
Again next to BA egg. They are very Round. Another difficult thing when determining which end is up!
Now a different one next to the AM.
Now all together. I just don't think pics can do them justice though! ! I might just have to break out the measuring tape! Lol

Yes, he'll be so impressed...he "vacations" there every day!leslea ~ Hahaha I guess you can't cram a vaca in before May? Tell him that you've booked a trip to another state . . . you'll be going to Louisville, KY -- just a few miles away from you.![]()
I have the same problem with my EE's they are 11 days old now and they still act like I'm going to eat them.... I have 2 SLW in with them and they come to say hi and attack me every time I get near the brooder!!! mine have got some wing feathers but by no means are they full sets yet. I guess mine are slow. Are EE's always so wild? Mine act like it's the first time they have seen a human everytime I approach the brooder. Crazy beasts! Plus at 6 days old they have full sets of wings.
