INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I got some leg bands in the mail yesterday. the company said they were having troubles with the numbers rubbing off, but I tried to rub them of-didn't work. (the rubberbands are chicks)

Hi to all!
My husband and I are brand new to chickens.  We have talked about it for quite some time and just took the 'plunge' yesterday so this is all very new to us.  I wanted to bring home every baby chick in the store...but my husband said 'no' and I  thought better of it and decided on 4 each of 6 different varieties! (Told you we took a plunge) We live in rural parke county in Indiana and look forward to linking up with like minded ppl and eager to learn all there is to know! So excited! Any helpful advice is much welcomed!

Welcome to the thread and welcome to chicken math!

Make sure they are warm and have clean bedding. Also access to water at all times. What are you using for a brooder?

Do you have any pics of them? It might help us figure it out.

No. Didn't have my phone and my animals aren't kept at my house. The only think I can think of is they are going to the bathroom on each other, burning each other with urine and feces. Some look ok, but others looked like they were scalped.

Were those the blues you mentioned earlier? What a sucky outcome.
Yes they were! First dozen last year all were infertile! Seller never responded back $60 down the drain. Then I ordered another dozen at $65 and a half dozen from another seller at $40, about half developed, then internally pipped, then power went out. Nothing. For that money, I could have just bought 6-8 chicks lol. Ohh well, all I can do is laugh.

I have two dark brahma hens, and I love them. Very docile, big and fluffy, and they lay better than Cochins. Always on the lookout for more brahmas.

:hugs Oh no, I am so sorry. It may be something internal you can't see.
Will do some looking and see if I can find anything at all.

Thank you. She died. It's so weird and confusing.  She wasn't developing at the same rate as Scrappy. She layed under the eco glow all the time. Maybe just failure to thrive. I hope it wasn't something worse. No one else has issues. If anyone has a spare duckling let me know. Scrappy is pretty upset. they were pretty attached to one another.

Oh No Kab... So sorry u lost Your little Quacker!!! I'm glad TSC agreed t replace her too! Of my two I recently got from SallyinIndiana the little Khaki is developing so much slower and isn't filling out as quickly. Now I'm wondering if she's having issues!?!?! Hmmmmm. I know you won't forget t send us pics of your new baby when she arrives. !
