INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We are going to have some boys from our mixed hatch. They are 2 weeks now, so I'm not sure which are boys. Will wait until we can sex them to see what are boys, and how many we have. She is keeping all girls and maybe 1 roo. I hope some of my friends on here can help. We don't eat our chickens and can't keep that many boys I have 7 boys now.

They will look like Cricket. Any takers. Only offering to byc friends for free to good homes. No processing.

Here are the chicks

Ok so got the bator cleaned out..and shipped eggs set. Got 28 Blue and Black Copper Marans from fellow BYCers and one threw in 2 Olive Egger eggs! Yea! Then I set some more of my own..so..whatever space was left..think it was another dozen. I have to say I was happy to see my girls deff lay on the large side and dark side of fellow breeders. However my eggs are much more round. Which leads me to my issues I just had with this hatch. I had them air cell down! Needless to say I will be candling every one this time as mine are sooo hard to tell!

Speaking of which. . I had been sitting back some for this hatch which I started gathering 3/16 if anyone here is interested I gathered too many just incase something happened and didn't end up setting all of the shipped ones.

I also bought a digital scale and one of the largest eggs weighed in at 89 grams!! I also had others in the low 80's but I would say they average 74g! Just for scale I also weighed my bantam Cochin egg..37g lol and AM egg at 60g
Any takers? If not they will go in the fridge by Sat.
I hate to do it but..ya know..

Fuuuuu..... lost 2 more Welsummers and another Cornish x. I think they are smothering each other. I've lost 10 chicks in 4 days. I can't get them to stop huddling together, regardless of where I put the lamp. I keep the Cornish and layers together for a week before I separate them.

I was thinking this earlier. I have 3 lamps. One in a layer brooder, one with the chicks I just got, and one outside for some Cornish x. It'd be nice if this Indiana weather could make up its mind. I'll probably get an order when I get back from vacation in April to replace my lost chicks.

Thanks! We do love them! Unfortunately I'm not in the business of shipping but if you decide to make a trip thru or to this great state feel free to hit me up for some!

M2H, I got a laugh out of your dog-attack preventative measures. Did you wave your arms into the air to appear taller and more formidable?
leslea ~ I couldn't really tell you what I did other than scream and run to cut him off before he could get my orps. He turned and practically ran away with his tail between his legs! He probably thought, "Oh no, it's that crazy chicken lady who's always digging in her yard!"

So this evening, I decided to go to the same area of the yard, but use the side gate. With six excited hens behind me, I opened the gate and there was a dog-- a different one!. I quickly shut the gate, but the hens knew what it was, so they ran up by the house. The dog belonged to a neighbor who had added a new backyard fence last summer, but he managed to slip out today. I hadn't seen any loose dogs in a year, so that was pretty weird to see them two days in a row. At least I will be more alert when I'm outside of the fenced area with the hens.
