INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Vicki if Ihad a truck I would drive over and get some wood. I've got a tractor to build. That's so nice to offer it to us.
I got my coop up on cinder blocks! Yay for not having a soggy floor anymore. I will hang the floor beams and put down the flooring in the morning. I actually broke a 2x4 using it as a lever to lift it. So bloody knuckles and lots of sweat later, the hard part is done. I had to hurry too, those crazy birds flew up to the roost in the middle of lifting it.

Awesome! Your birds will be very grateful, and i hear ya on the knuckles! I almost have my guinea hen coop finished, Now, they just need to start laying!

Just make sure if your breeding to sell to keep them true breed. They will sell alot better and for more. Mutt chicken eggs are harder to sell because you dont know what you really could be getting.
yea im going to keep the cochins true breed and try to keep the others true breed but im keeping the bantam to gether when we build out new coop

Who else lives on this thread? This guy does!

Just watched a birchen Marans hatch out! I was getting so frustrated just watching it "struggle" to get out of the shell, I can't imagine what they are feeling lol

Tonight I killed a possum in my chicken house...

The kids and I were late getting home and doing the evening feed. The three of us had been in the chicken house for over 5 minutes, feeding the 2 month old chicks. I opened one of the breeder pen doors to drop off a bucket. As I shut the door I scanned the roost to check out the birds (bantam cochins in this pen) and there on the top roost were two hens on the left end and on the right, a big ol' possum.

It was sitting on the top rung just like it was a chicken. Strangest thing I have seen... I had my son go to the house for the .22
The whole time it just sat there, occasionally looking at me. I wish I could have caught and relocated it, but couldn't figure out how to get it done right then. It would be too risky to have scared it out, once it knew how to get in. I am assuming it climbed the 6 foot fence...

This was my first possum-in-the-chicken-house trouble. It was just one door and six feet away from my young birds.

I don't know if this was a first time or if it got in there every night. No birds have been missed.
