INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Tonight's questions:
Where do you buy your grit and oyster shell?
How much does it cost per bag, please include the bag size?

We get our oyster shell from Rural King for $11 / 50 pound bag.
We have not needed grit yet but I'm thinking about offering it in the same way we do oyster shell.

I get mine at rural king, same price. I will say that they don't seem to use much of either. There has barely been a dent made in the bags so they will last a loooooonnnnggg time.

anyone in need of roosters?
I have one named Carl who is a black star rooster. you can send him to freezer camp xD
and another one named Bonnie (thought was a girl up until two nights ago) that is bantam cochin x rhode island red

Free. Columbus, IN

A little off topic and hoping some of the gardeners and composter's can help me out. I just picked up a great compost tumbler. Does anyone use anything like a tumbler or compost pile/bin? And if so how do you get the material started and keep it producing good healthy compost? any tips would be great thanks all!!

Pictures help and this time of year you might be able to find them homes as breeders on CL if you list them for $5 and mention that they are fertile. Of course it helps if they are indeed fertile.
I have been able to re-home all but 1 rooster that we did not want to put into the crockpot.

A little bit of chicken poo along with 2 - 3 shovels of dirt will help get it started. We just let our chickens compost in their runs though. I ended up selling our double spinning composter on CL last year after it st all but empty for almost a year.

Sorry I missed the egret discussion. Life's too short for egrets. ;) They are great birds. Okay, I will stop with the fowl jokes now.

Last night I dreamed about chickens. I dreamed my silkies were splashes, and instead of being bantams, they were bigger than Jersey Giants. Totally huge! There were three of them. I didn't dream about any of my other chicks, just the silkies. And in my dream, I had 3 instead of two.

Two weeks from now! Just two weeks!

Does anyone on here have pics of hatchling mille fleur or porcelain booted and bearded d'uccle? We lost Petrie after a long battle (she fell or was pushed off the roost in December and made it through all the nasty winter only to get injured again two weeks ago) and this weekend got two little bantam babies from TSC. I am pretty sure that one is either a blue or black cochin banty but the other is frustrating me. She/he has an adorable little beard and little fluffy legs but doesn't look like any of the babies that Murray Mcmurray has on their website of possible breeds included in their assortments!! I am too impatient to wait so if anyone has these breeds/colors and has baby pics I would totally appreciate it!!!

Thanks!
