INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Ever notice how the last two steps of a project take the longest?

I'm done with the build portion of my coop nee shed. All I have left is to clean up and sweep out. There's an impressive collection of sawdust, scrap wood, and power tools. Then purchase consumables and supplies, and I'm ready for chickens.

It could easily take me until Friday night to get these two things accomplished. Life with little kids is very, very busy.

LOL - I hear ya! We have our chicks and they are living in the coop now, but there are still a couple of things that need to be finished - the nest boxes have been built, but need to be put IN the coop and affixed to the wall, the run is 75% done (it IS going to be done so they can go out this weekend - end of story, lol). Unfortunately, with both DH and I working all week by the time we get home there are only a couple of hours left to do anything and so far this week we or the kids have had other obligations EVERY evening so even that couple of hours is a lost cause.......

Egg plant got cleaned out and bleach water thrown in. More purple...sigh. The kids threw their brushes in and I didn't pay attention. I'm still waiting on my chicks. Gonna scrub the egg plant tonight and maybe put in some perches. Think I'm gonna get some shelf support things to put poo catchers under the perches and also to build a porch outside the chicken door.

I forgot to grab whatever it is I need to attach the run wire to the T posts. Should I use zip ties or what?

Zip ties can work. The regular nylon kind will deteriorate in the sun, eventually, but that will take about two to three years. They make another kind that are UV resistant that will last several years longer. The next step up from that is to lace it on with bailing wire. Much more time consuming to install, much more permanent.

Glad you figured it out! The cattle egrets didn't show up in my search I think because of the red you mentioned on their heads. Do they stay year round or are they migratory?
The red I was talking about was actually orange that gets brighter at breeding time and from my distance it looked red. Guess its breeding time for them.. lol and it didn't say but it showed a color map of where it is at what time of the year and we are a normal path to their summer spot.. so maybe I will get to see some more going through. If not then maybe next year, might be silly but I put it in my calender to be on the look out. They were pretty and it was cool seeing a different kind of bird here. Used to seeing the cranes around here.

Ok I think I will do zip ties then. I wanna move one day.

HELP - I'm a teacher in Indianapolis and we've planned a whole unit around hatching chicks but our source for the eggs fell through today. Does anyone know where I can get some eggs on the west side by Tuesday? We're scheduled to put them in the incubator then.
