INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey guys!
After this hatch coming up in a little over a week, depending on what colors I get, I may be re-homing a couple of pairs of adult silkies. I have more than I need, and would like to see them go to a good home. I am putting this out there now, so when I decide what I am doing with the flock, I have homes ready for them. They are breeder and pet quality. I have bred the pet quality ones and got breeder quality, potential show quality out of them. So they are breeding birds if whoever takes them wants to breed them. When I say pet quality, it means they have a trait that although beautiful, would be a disqualification in the show ring. I.E missing a toe on one foot, or a lighter color comb than desired. Breeder quality is that they have all toes (the extra as silkies have 5 on each foot) and all other desirable traits, and could be shown. They are all conformationally correct. If anyone is interested let me know. I only sell in pairs, when and if I sell adult silkies, which isn't very often. As soon as I know what I have with this hatch, I will decide which ones I will possibly be re-homing. I know this sounds super vague, I apologize. This is just so I know who is interested so I can set up homes for the ones I won't be breeding any longer for myself.

I also have silkie hatching eggs available for $25/doz plus shipping for a limited time. I have some new layers, and I'm not sure on fertility with some of them, so I am discounting my prices for awhile. (I try to send some freebee extra eggs in an order if I have them, for a better chance at a good hatch.)

We are sending our alpaca fleece out this week and next to a mill to have yarn made. So although we won't have raw fiber available, we will have yarn. Someone asked yesterday about that, and I forgot to respond. Sorry. :)

It's a little early to tell, but I would say its a good possibility. I have 3 boys I thought were girls until the streamers started coming in. The white male I am keeping for breeding is very girly, except he has streamers on his head.
Cute doggie. He's a horse!

Streamers. but a tiny comb

The only way I knew he was a boy.

Hey, guys, I haven't been on here for months and have been playing catchup. Reading all posts I've missed. Super glad to be back. FYI...Muncie Rural King this afternoon had 5-6 Blue Slate turkeys and lots of Sicilian Buttercup pullets and Silver Spangled Hamburg pullets.
Tomorrow, our 6 BR turkeys are coming. Can't wait!!

lilmizcareall ~ That's interesting that you have two, maybe four broody hens! When you mentioned the Cochin bantams-- are they side by side? Just curious. If the cute, old fashioned percolating coffee maker sound is like the one my bantam Orp makes-- a steady, even-paced, low pitched "Cluck-Cluck-Cluck," I think that's a warning sound. At least that's what Bonbon seems to say. Her other broody sound is a Screeeeech, like I warned you-- so get out of here! Her other distinctly broody sound is another screechy sound when she shakes like a wet dog and fluffs up her feathers. Broodies go through weird changes!
hoosiercheetah ~ That has happened occasionally-- I think (but don't know for sure) that it occurs when a hen needs to lay an egg, but can't find a private place in time. I say that because it's happened when the coop door has been opened in the morning later than usual as though the hen doesn't want an audience. Several of mine prefer to lay in a box in the garage instead of the coop. That's just my theory. Doesn't seem like it would happen while sleeping.

I have 3, the fourth is a big ol' faker!
They do make the screechy dinosaur noises, but this is a very quiet "blupblubblurpblupblupblup" content sound.

I have had an interesting few days. I took Monday and Tuesday off of work to plant my vegetable garden. I have about 200 square feet to plant so it takes a while to do. I also decided to utilize companion planting so I planted a redic amount this year! It is a pretty cool concept! Of course we had gale force winds and rain for most of my time off so I ended up working REALLY hard to get everything done before the bad weather hit. I ended up planting on Sunday in 30 mph winds and had seeds blowing everywhere. It will be pretty interesting to see what it ends up looking like! I may have some unplanned "companions" lol.

My parents suffered a tragedy, their great dane (rescued a year ago) attacked one of their dachshunds and he ended up dying after 3 hours of surgery to try to repair broken ribs, a punctured lung and kidney and liver damage. He was my dad's dachshund and it is so hard to hear your dad sobbing on the phone because his best friend is now gone in such a horribly violent and unexpected way. The great dane had previously attacked two other small dogs and they had been working with a behaviorist to try to fix the behavior, which the behaviorist thought was fixable. They are now blaming themselves for not sending her back to rescue after the other incidents. If they had this dog would still be alive. It is human nature to blame yourself when this stuff happens and there isn't much you can say to comfort them. We have all been a crying mess over the whole thing. The great dane went back to the rescue within 12 hours of the latest incident, so in a way they are mourning the loss of two dogs. Such a horrible situation.

I woke up last night to "no no bad dog" laying on my select comfort mattress control. My bottom half was sagging! My sleep befuddled brain thought I was under attack at first from the whirring of the mattress box and my body being moved...kind of funny. Then since I was awake I heard coyotes CLOSE, they were carrying on and sounded like they were right outside my window, which would probably mean the chicken coop or horse barn. So I spent the rest of the night awake stressing about the chickens and my old skinny horse. So now I feel like a zombie from lack of sleep. BTW everyone was fine but this is the first time I have known of coyotes getting this close to the house and I don't like it. There isn't any woods near me so they usually stay on the other side of the ravine/creek in the fields to the back of my property. Not sure what I am going to do if they decide to start lurking. They are becoming such an issue EVERYWHERE and I haven't heard of a good way to stay safe from them. If they decide your property is a buffet they will come back until they get what they want. I guess in Carmel a lady left her house to run an errand and came back to a destroyed house. A coyote had busted through her door and killed her dog IN HER HOUSE. It really is terrifying.
Your second paragraph shocked me! Great danes are usually such sweet dogs, but there is always a black sheep. So sorry to hear about your dad's dachshund. That is so sad. I can say I have only seen my dad cry a few times and it is an odd feeling/sight. Hugs to you and your family

There are LOTS of medications used "off label" (not for their approved purposes) by drs and vets all the time. Most of the time it's cost prohibitive for companies to test their product on multiple species. I don't remember how much I paid for my little bottle of blu-kote but I know I wouldn't have bought it if it was $25 for a few ounces.

I agree you should know what you are using on your animals, approved or not!
Ahh those look yummy!! My MIL spent all weekend looking for mushrooms in their woods, no luck though

. Vet will suggest lots of things! A poultry vet was telling me a story about a duck that was attacked by a dog and she put tree sealant (i think that is what it is called) on it! Weirdest thing I had ever heard! Turns out they are losing water from there body and putting that on holds it in? The sealant is black though, it takes forever to get off, so this person had an all black mallard duck for awhile.
I'm still alive folks. Computer at home decided to die on me. Working on getting a new one. Chickens are doing great. They are about to bury me under eggs. I have one broody sitting on a few right now. My new babies arent babies any more they are growing fast.

Good to hear (the being alive part). Good luck on your search for another computer. Chicks grow so fast!
