Try sticking a q tip in its vent and see if you feel a blockage. Other than a warm bath and gentle massage or very gentle squeezing I don't know.

Thank you for the advice. I think that I am going to watch it tonight and see how it does. Then if not changed tomorrow I will give it a warm bath.

I did a full clean out for the first time in my pallet palace coop. I got all the chickens out into the run and shut the door then cleaned. I was using straw for bedding on the floor. My straw supplier is out so off to TSC we went. It now has wood chips witch I do like better. When I was done I let the chicks back in lOOOOOOLLLLLOOOOLLLL!!! You should have seen how the reacted. Picture a flock of chickens going through a door into a coop that has LAVA for a floor!! lol they were jumping around and did not want to step on the floor oh my lord it was the funnest thing I have seen in a long time!! I wish I could have recorded that. Anyone have an idea of when I should be expecting my pullets to start laying eggs??? Most of them were hatched early February.. There are black australorps, RIR, BR, SLW, GLW, buff orpingtons, birchen marans, white leghorns, EE's, Jersey Giants, I think thats all besides the little chicks I still have in two diff brooders!

Well you can expect most to lay between 5 and 9 months lol. So sometime between July and November. Though if they wait til November they may not lay this year at all.

What's wrong with this chicks abdomen? It looks all swollen and its almost completely bare. It is one of the new chicks. I did not notice it yesterday. It is eating, drinking, and acting normal. Any help is appreciated.

Aside from it looking weird, there never seemed to be any issues, I honestly just thought it might just be how her skin was colored. I am totally new to chickens though so that was just my best guess.

X2 I have one right now the exact same way growing like a weed! I haven't thought twice about it.

Anyone interested in hatching eggs? I have half a dozen (plus extras) of both legbars and Birchen Marans. I can get them out in the mail tomorrow if paid by 7am tomorrow or Monday. Asking $25 each set or $40 for both (shipping included). Obviously pickup is also welcome.

I recommend getting chicks from someone on this thread or someone who knows a reputable breeder. I wouldn't buy them from a stranger or a swap meet type of place because of many stories I've read on BYC about people being sold sick chickens. Another option is purchasing from a store like Rural King. I know that the Bloomington Rural King had lots of chicks last Monday.

You mentioned in another post that you were thinking about Black Jersey Giants. The one I had was wonderful, but it's fun to have a variety in your flock "one of each" haha It's interesting to have different breeds-- and different colors of eggs. I have one with the dark patch on the belly skin but it isn't hard or swollen. Sometimes pictures don't show everything or don't show what you're trying to say well. Go look at yourself in the mirror and then take a photo of yourself in the mirror. Often it looks totally different from what you see. I know I haven't successfully been able to show some aspects via photo of what is wrong with my chick. This did give me an idea though!

I forgot to mention, go feel your other babies bellies so that you have a good comparison for palpation. If it feels the same it may simply be the skin color. The baby may have a very large stool and a simple poo may help. It might be eating wood chips, if that is their litter. If that's the case moving it to another brooder with paper towels instead of or over wood chips will help.

Ok so to make room for the new birds I'm getting I need to get rid of some birds. I'm really open to 2 or 3 to 1 trades if you are willing to pick the birds up and you have something awesome!

1 laying hen black copper mom was a marans dad was a brown leghorn. She looks like a bcm though lays very large cream or light brown eggs.

1 blrw cockerel has amazing color and lacing and is getting ok type but he's small. Could be used in your breeding program if you had a big ol girl. 6 or 7 months old.

1 blrw cockerel 3 or 4 weeks old black lacing.

1 blrw pullet 3 or 4 weeks old splash lacing

1 blrw cockerel 3 or 4 weeks old splash lacing excellent red color for a splash. Biggest chick I have bigger than the brahmas lol.

1 gold partridge brahma pullet 3 or 4 weeks old

1 ee pullet, 3 or 4 weeks old dad was a wheaten am, mom was a partridge. She has really beautiful crisp colors, the typical ee coloration but really crisp.

Selling them works for me as well, only the brahma would be pretty pricey. I'd prefer trading for banties or laying birds if possible.
