INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey guys so I'm placing my order with chickenhill. I'm getting a trio of blrw from Nittany from tish and also some bantam chocolate wyandottes. If people are interested I will get a breeding trio of those too and hatch only what people ordered. I can get a black and breed sex linked birds with split for chocolate black males and chocolate females.

Any advice on where a new hoosier can get can get good chicks to start a backyard flock? My new house is in Nashville, IN. Thanks!

The Breed tab on the BYC home page has a sort tool down the left side of the page that's really helpful.

What you want to determine first is what the chickens are for - most are either eggs, meat, pets, or show. There are a lot of good multi-purpose breeds.

A mistake I made in the beginning was getting too attached to one breed. I ended up with a thoroughly mixed flock, and I'm really happy with it.

I needed to add some water to my incubator, so I went ahead and candled my wheaten marans and Goldne comet eggs. Every egg looks to be fertile and growing. Its only been three days sense I set the clutch but they are doing something the top 1/4 of egg has a noticeable blob! Hopefully I am seeing growth.

Hi guys! I haven't been on here in forever! So.. I got my chicks back in April and 2 of them died (of course my favorite) and my frizzle didn't frizzle. So we got two chicks at tractor supply as replacements was told one was a leghorn but turned out to be a meat bird. We have it to my poultry club leader. Then we got a rhode island red and now all are doing fine, thank God! We built a chicken tractor and painted our coop everything is looking good now!

Sounds like you were having a small streak of bad luck. Glad things are looking up for you now!

What's wrong with this chicks abdomen? It looks all swollen and its almost completely bare. It is one of the new chicks. I did not notice it yesterday. It is eating, drinking, and acting normal. Any help is appreciated.
