No worries! I never take anything the wrong way. ;-)
If you meant me, then thank you for thinking of me but I'm flush with chickens and couldn't possibly take on any more. If I do end up having to send a few belligerent Reds to the freezer, I'll wait to replace them until I'm down by three or four, and get baby chicks from someone. I've decided that for me, bringing in started birds isn't worth the trouble of quarantine. Someone mentioned a while back that they brood their chicks in the coop and only check on them a few times a day. This sounds both manageable and ingenious to me - by the time they're big enough to really join the flock, everyone already knows them. Of course, now that I've said that, someone else will tell me why it won't work. ;-)

If you meant some other Aaron... nevermind! :-D
Thanks! It will be really interesting to see what happens when I finally put all these little monsters together. I sincerely hope it works out - I really like the reds; they're lovely little birds. I'd really hate to have to remove them permanently.

My neighbors already know I sing to my flock. With a 6yr old daughter, singing the random songs that get stuck in my head is just part of my life. I know all the words to "Let it Go" and it's in a key I can reach (thanks Idina!) so they get that one on a regular basis. I know a whole mess of lullabies; I'll have to try this and see what happens!

Ya, that sounds like me. Thanks for helping me dodge that particular bullet! I'm starting to understand that, as with many things, it take a large number of years to have seen most of the weird chicken things that can happen, and even after several decades they will still surprise you.

My daughter is sitting next to me on the couch, reading over my shoulder, and she asked if there's anything about front-yard chickens. It took me a sec to get what she meant. so I'll as the group - anyone keep there birds in out front instead of the back?

ETA I'm the only one up this early on a Saturday, aren't I?
We were up early this morning -- as in 2:00am hoping to see the meteor shower. In the matter of 1 hour and 15 minutes we saw maybe 4 meteors. While those were cool, overall this potentially "epic meteor shower" was a disappointment! Went back to bed around 3:30 am which made for a short night...

hoosierchicken ~ I actually went to bed at 3:00am! Woke up at 5:30am, so I let the chickens out. Then woke up at 9:00am, so I went ahead and got up since I have a weekend guest arriving today (BF --best friend not boyfriend-lol) who lives in Indy). I'm a night owl and wish that I weren't.

That's so funny about your daughter saying "front-yard" chickens. I often supervise my chickens in the front yard in the evening when the late afternoon sun warms the bricks on the house. Their favorite dust bathing spot is under the eaves wear the soil stays dry (luckily a bush acts as a screen so it's not so obvious that I let my chickens roll around in my landscaping). Afterwards, they free-range in the front. Neighbors walking by enjoy seeing them.

Btw, re CRSelvey's photo ~ That building with the cupola is her coop, not her house-- in case you wondered. Pretty nice!
CRSelvey~ I know my chickens so well because I am outside with them almost every day of the year for at least a couple of hours, sometimes up to 7 hours (they help me with my projects). That's a downside to having a home office; it's tempting to go out with my chickens especially in nice weather. When I step outside I get a feeling of happiness-- I don't know how to describe it other than a chicken addiction. And they fill my "empty nest." You'd think after all the time I'm working outside my yard would look perfect and I would be in perfect shape. That hasn't happened, but my physical and mental health has definitely improved since having chickens. Getting my freelance work and inside chores done has been more of a challenge. Speaking of inside chores, I need to get the guest bedroom ready.

That info I sent you from kabhyper has info about what to do if the eggs don't hatch. I'm sorry you're dealing with a tough situation, but I'm so happy that you have one adorable chick. That would be terrible to go through all of that with no hatches at all. Hopefully, you'll have good news today.

Edited to clarify BF haha

Hello All, Today was an interesting chicken day. These are my 10.5 week old chicks. I finally moved their tractor into the chicken yard so they could get used to each other earlier this week. Tonight I opened the door and there was an uproar. All the young ones tried coming out but the big ones chased them back. Exactly as M2H described, my sweetest hen ran right over there and immediately established that she was NOT going to be less dominant than them. The littles stayed in their tractor even with the door open and the big ones stood outside daring them to come out. We did have one rooster scuffle, but it was between the ones in tractor. Please excuse the poo boards, its only been two days since I washed them off, but its their favorite spot to sit. Kind of gross.

My Welsummer and Silver Duckwing OEGB pullets.

Again, please excuse the mess, but this is Elsa, I hope. Other than she doesn't look friendly, does she look like a boy to you?

She's a suspicious sort, but my other EE isn't that friendly either, so I didn't expect her to be.

This is our Mille Fleur d'Uccle boy. I think he's a doll and he is really friendly.

This is just another pic of the girls because I think their colors are so pretty.

Bella is still sitting on her eggs, but I'm going to take them away tomorrow. I'm afraid of exploding eggs. Her baby is so cute, but aren't they all?

Looks like a pullet. But ee's can be a bit harder to sex. I would say strong possibility pullet.

Your Elsa looks almost identical to my Elsa, who is a white and buff ee. Yours has a bit more buff than mine. I'm no expert by any stretch, but I did read a few hundred pages of threads on sexing ees, and yours looks like a pullet to me. The big tell for them seems to be rust and brown markings across the shoulders and back. Your girl doesn't seem to have any in the pics I've seen. I'd put 10 bucks on pullet.

No you weren't the only one up at that time...LOL...I was up just not "online". I was doing laundry, fixing breakfast, cleaning the kitchen, baking cakes n pies, tending to my morning chicken chores. Oh I also washed my car, my moms car and husbands car.
I can't carry a tune in a bucket if it had a lid on it!
My chickens would look at me and run like heck as far away as they could get, if I started singing to my poor girls. I've bn thinking of putting a radio in my coop but the only station we get here is Country. Travis Tritt can do amazing things for me but I'm not sure my birds would appreciate his talents.
