INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I meant to add that I've felt really upset and in shock. I feel so bad for that sweet little baby. I’m just glad that whatever happened, happened quickly so she didn’t suffer.

Everyone seemed fine today, so hopefully it was just a weird, random thing.

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like she was a beautiful bird. Really hurts to lose a pet but the pretty ones seem to hurt more for so me reason.

A quick share of a few baby pics. Dolly, a 6-wk white silkie and Cher, a 3-wk blue sizzle are both doing great. They are both as sweet as pie.

I've tried for 2 weeks to get them to use a nipple waterer, but they just look at them and stay thirsty. All our other birds are on a nipple system, so we've got some work to do on these girls.

In the 80's, in college Psychology class, we taught a rat to press a bar for a drop of water...surely it will be easier to get a silkie & sizzle to use a nipple waterer...
Yes Chickens must certainly be more superior to rats! (I like chickens, not so fond of rats) They (the chicks not rats!) are adorable! Keep us posted on the nipple waterer and how you get them to use it. I just discovered those, and we are thinking about getting one but wondering how they will adjust to the change (mine are 4 weeks).

Here's how you tell:

Yellow underfoot = Jersey Giant
White Underfoot = Black Australorp

You can also check out this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/176156/black-australorp-or-black-jersey-giant
That is how I suspect 1 Jersey Giant and 1 Australorp but, they are hatchery so it seems from what I have read in that thread and elsewhere that it is entirely possible that we have 2 Jersey Giants cause hatchery JG could have pink feet. Not that it really matters all that much I just really want to know what they are and what they may look like!

Hi browncow15 :) that's really cool that there's someone so close. I've seen a few signs of chicken keeping out this way, even though I'm kind of close to town. It always makes me smile :D

We live just north of the fairgrounds and there's three of us chicken keepers on my road. My roos get into crowing contests with the neighbors sometimes even though they're a fair ways down the road :)

I'm not far from you out here in Coatesville.

Wow I didn't realize you were so close!

I'm at Rockville (US36) and 465, myself. I think there might be another chickener in my neighborhood, but I'm not sure yet.

Or you can custom build one with any feature set you like, including multiple switchable control options, for a fraction of the cost. :-D

I didn't realize you were so close either! Would you be willing to collect parts for the door? Is be happy to pay you,but dragging two toddlers all the way to the east side to get a couple of car antena just won't work out very well for me ;)

Well, when it rains it pours.  After owing thousands in taxes last month, 6 sick animals in the last three weeks, 2 emergency vet visits and a paralyzed rooster, my guest bathroom has sprung a serious leak at 9:30 at night.  No shut off valve.  I'm already nearing the bottom of my poor abused bank account and still have a follow up vet visit for the swollen faced dog.  Now I am going to have a $300 plumbing visit to pay for. :hit   I'm really freaking stressed and depressed and definitely in tears.  When will life get easier and better?

Sorry :( I hope things turn around for you soon!

Thanks for sharing the pics - how old are they?  If you can ever get a close up of your Jersey Giant and Black Australorp I would love to see them up close.  I think I have one of each (they are 4 weeks old). The store thought they were Barred Rocks (not quite! I figured that out quickly!)

Thanks, the SLW were hatched Feb 4. I can get pics for you no probablem. I found out that the Black Australorops do not gave pigment in their eyes. The eye is completely black. (kabhyper1 told me this, don't quote me I'm not sure) I couldn't tell them apart either lol.

The leak has slowed down to a drip, which seems a lot more manageable in my head. I'm going to make some calls today and see if I can get the parts myself to save money on those.

If you don't mind my asking, what's leaking exactly? I know someone else mentioned being a fair hand at plumbing, and I are one too, so if you want any help or advice on making your repair, I'd by happy to do anything I can!
