INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I managed to get way behind on reading cause of a busy weekend. So I was getting caught up today and all of a sudden I could no longer click to like something - now I see it says "You are over your limit in rating content" - anyone else had that happen? And how long till I can like something again? It just seemed simpler to click that I liked something and make a brief comment instead of junking the thread up with all my comments!

I do have a question. My girls (at least right now I think they are all girls!) were 8 weeks Monday. We are wondering when it's okay to start letting them free range. We are in the city with a fenced in yard. I already know who will be first over the fence, she is the most inquisitive and adventurous, but the lower chain link is the side with the wonderful neighbors who love them almost as much as we do. The other side has a really high privacy fence that right now I don't think they could make it up on.

Just wondering when we should start letting them explore!

The next incubator I get, I am going all out (well I would really get a cabinet if I was doing that but.....). I want a nicer, more reliable one. I think I'm going to get a Hova bator Genesis. The one I want comes with egg turners and they candler. At least this way I won't have to worry as much about the temperature getting messed up by someone

You should consider one of these. I love it! Stable temps, good humidity control, and fantastic view of hatching eggs.

Curious reading about the incubators.  Is this one tall enough that they can hatch in there?  From the photos it looks like it's really short.

I've hatched chickens and turkeys both in there with no issues. I can't go on enough about how good the viewing is. You can see every pip and zip.

two can be good as you could use one for setting eggs and one for hatching eggs. Then you can set eggs every 5 days as long as you have brooder space for chicks of different ages. That was my downfall this past winter. I was hatching small groups and could not set up a new brooder every 5 days. I now have more experience mixing chicks of different ages but it is not the easiest the first time around. It is something that while there are "rules" it truly is better based off of knowing the chicks and gut feelings.

I must say I'm having a really hard time selling this guy! I really don't need any more projects, but think I will be looking for some eggs, chicks, or hens for him.
