You remind me a lot of Old Salt who used to be on here. Seems he had done a little of everything too. Anyone heard from him lately?@Mother2Hens
"You've said that you're a car mechanic, airplane mechanic, and a teacher. What ages and subjects do you teach?"
I'm an instructor at an aviation maintenance school, and they're all over 18. Some are adults, and some are not quite yet. I train aircraft mechanics, and I are one, too.
I've also worked as a tree cutter, HVAC installer, plumber, carpenter, baker of wedding cakes (I'll post a pic or two if I can find them), farm and field hand, snowboard instructor, rifle instructor, janitor, bartender, and I've done the usual food service and retail jobs. I was at a Petsmart for a long time, and think what you will about box stores but the employees there get a basic education in the animals they sell and service. I worked at a Borders bookstore for one of the Harry Potter release days, and that was a good time.
Oh, and I'm a US Air Force Vet.
That's me! Any questions? ;-)
Quote: When I have the light up against the egg (in a dark room of course)...
I tip the whole thing from side to side. If I see liquid in it...you can see the liquid moving freely as you tip it sideways...then by that age I know there is no development.
Perhaps that's what they mean by "clear"...not sure. But if they are withing days of hatch and I see liquid freely moving I know there is not a chick.
very nice design -- I like it! Eagerly awaiting the cost for shirts/shipping (for those of us who cannot attend the gathering)
Here is what I currently have available and can take to Chickenfest! I will only bring them if someone commits to buying. Don't want to haul more than I need to down there.
I'm willing to wheel and deal, so don't get scared off by price.
*2 naked necks (Marans cross) $5 ~2 wks old
*Several Birchen marans/crosses (one will likely be barred, may some are pure but can't tell apart from mixes) $3 ~2 weeks old
*Young trio (looking like all pullets) LF partridge wyandottes $15 for trio
*Splash silkie cockerel SOLD
*Chocolate orpington cockerel $10
*Splash modern game cockerel $8
*Birchen modern game cockerel $8
*Black modern game cockerel $10
*Light Brahma pullet $8 SOLD
*Easter Egger cockerel FREE
*Buff/Partridge mix Brahmas (3 available, all unsexed) $6 each/$15 for all
*Cream Legbar pair $30 (don't remember exact age but around 3-4 months old) SOLD
*Cream Legbar pair $25 (again not sure of age but closer to the 2-2.5 month old mark)
*Bielfelder pair $30 (roo is small for age but starting to grow quite a bit now) NOTE: I'm pretty sure the pullet is a bielefelder, but may possibly be a non crested legbar these autosexing breeds look so much alike at young age. I'm hoping by chickenfest I will be 100%. Ask Pipd how good I am at telling these breeds apart lol.
*Cream Legbar cockerels various ages from the 3-4 month mark to several weeks. FREE with other purchases.
*Silkie cockerels/roosters. I have a white, partridge (beautiful color, not good crest), and blue with gold leakage all hatched beginning of feb. Have a blue with silver leakage who is a little younger than the previously listed. Also have my original splash and silver partridge/grey roos available. $5 each on 4 younger cockerels and the older Roos are FREE to good home. All very well behaved.
Hatching eggs I should have available
Lavender/lavender split barred bantam cochin
Silkie (mixed color flock)
Silkie/showgirl in partridge, white, or black/blue pen
Crested cream legbar (Still getting some pullet eggs)
I can probably round up some Birchen Marans as well, but aren't laying very well or hiding eggs.
Also mix eggs from NN, white rock, and brown leghorns covered by the Marans roos.
I really liked this one. The chicken kind of reminds me of my reds but not so specific that it has to be a RIR.
