If anybody from NW Indiana has any frizzles, showgirl hens/pullets or gold laced polish hens/pullets (or any eggs from these breeds) that they're willing to sell please let me know! I can't go to ChickenFest :(

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! Hope you all got to eat lots of BBQ and yummy picnic foods, and got to see lots of beautiful fireworks! See ya'll soon!

just posting a pic of our Smokey Iowa Blue cockerel from our march 19th hatch - he's got a nice size already for his age.
Planning on bring some hatching eggs to chickenfest

He is gorgeous!!!! I am really interested in this breed for the future but plan on only hatching with broodies. I'll have to reach out the next time I have a broody

Broody hen raising chicks question ~> I went ahead and took my 4 hens away from their little ones. How long till the hens stop being a mothering broody and start laying eggs again. 2 of the mothering broodies did not even have their own chicks. One had killed her chicks and the other never sat on eggs just wanted to be a mother. She stopped laying when the first chicks hatched so she could lead them around the pen. I had 3 hens mothering 5 chicks and 1 hen mothering another 8.

Well, this morning my flock feels a lot smaller. One of my oldest hens, Pace, passed away last night. She had been slowing down a lot just over the past few days, so I have been braced for this for a while. Still, after seeing her marching through the chicken yard on her big, stompy feet, and doing her weird 'water chase' drinking at the bucket, and making her funny 'bowwww' noises instead of the usual cluck for 7 years, it's going to be strange not seeing her around anymore. :(

Alright, that was one of the ones I couldn't decide between, and it was my mom's favorite (she will be coming with me to the Chickenfest, so it should make her happy!)! Out of curiosity, since there were so many good designs, will they be available if we just want to order one for ourselves even if it isn't the official shirt? I really liked one other (I think it was 3A? The red one with all the birds in the shape of Indiana?), and who doesn't need more chicken shirts?
When I have the light up against the egg (in a dark room of course)... I tip the whole thing from side to side. If I see liquid in it...you can see the liquid moving freely as you tip it sideways...then by that age I know there is no development. Perhaps that's what they mean by "clear"...not sure. But if they are withing days of hatch and I see liquid freely moving I know there is not a chick.
Okay, I think I get what you're saying. I only saw one or two like that. By clear, I think they mean that since by day 18, the chick should be taking up most of the space in the shell, if there is nothing visible in the shell at all it is not developing. Or something like that. Most of the eggs (all except one) were clear. Today is day 21, and I'm going to follow Kab's advice and not let Marge sit past day 25. Come on little eggy, you can do it! :fl
Here is what I currently have available and can take to Chickenfest! I will only bring them if someone commits to buying. Don't want to haul more than I need to down there. I'm willing to wheel and deal, so don't get scared off by price. *2 naked necks (Marans cross) $5 ~2 wks old *Several Birchen marans/crosses (one will likely be barred, may some are pure but can't tell apart from mixes) $3 ~2 weeks old *Young trio (looking like all pullets) LF partridge wyandottes $15 for trio *Splash silkie cockerel SOLD *Chocolate orpington cockerel $10 *Splash modern game cockerel $8 *Birchen modern game cockerel $8 *Black modern game cockerel $10 *Light Brahma pullet $8 SOLD *Easter Egger cockerel FREE *Buff/Partridge mix Brahmas (3 available, all unsexed) $6 each/$15 for all *Cream Legbar pair $30 (don't remember exact age but around 3-4 months old) SOLD *Cream Legbar pair $25 (again not sure of age but closer to the 2-2.5 month old mark) *Bielfelder pair $30 (roo is small for age but starting to grow quite a bit now) NOTE: I'm pretty sure the pullet is a bielefelder, but may possibly be a non crested legbar these autosexing breeds look so much alike at young age. I'm hoping by chickenfest I will be 100%. Ask Pipd how good I am at telling these breeds apart lol. *Cream Legbar cockerels various ages from the 3-4 month mark to several weeks. FREE with other purchases. *Silkie cockerels/roosters. I have a white, partridge (beautiful color, not good crest), and blue with gold leakage all hatched beginning of feb. Have a blue with silver leakage who is a little younger than the previously listed. Also have my original splash and silver partridge/grey roos available. $5 each on 4 younger cockerels and the older Roos are FREE to good home. All very well behaved. Hatching eggs I should have available Lavender/lavender split barred bantam cochin Silkie (mixed color flock) Silkie/showgirl in partridge, white, or black/blue pen Crested cream legbar (Still getting some pullet eggs) I can probably round up some Birchen Marans as well, but aren't laying very well or hiding eggs. Also mix eggs from NN, white rock, and brown leghorns covered by the Marans roos.
Have updated the list. I need more sold! Lol
Aw, well I love my little Bielefelder anyway! And really, they are very similar. Here's some pictures of them just a few days after I picked them up:

Seriously, does anyone know which is which? (I do know, of course, just wanting to see if anyone else can tell. ;) ) P.S. Brad, you should be ashamed, preying on all of us who have no self control... But I meant to ask, didn't you have a partridge Barthuhner pullet listed before? Did you already sell her?

Lol. How many do you want?!?
Yes I have sold her. I'd really like to work with them, but again just too many breeding projects. Need to stop! Lol. On a positive note, my cabinet incubator is only half filled now! That's a first!

Speaking of hatching, I do have some legbar eggs and silkie eggs available. 8+ legbar and 10+ silkie. I need them gone so I'm not tempted to set them! Asking $25 shipped for each!

Also sorry to hear about your hen, Pipd!
