INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

***CHICKEN TRAIN ALERT***

Very short notice, but this Monday I will be hearing to the east side of Indy in the afternoon (plan to be in Indy around 2pm). As always, I'm more than happy to run chickens along my route. I will basically be taking 69 south to 465 E/S near 70. I have several chickens for sale I can bring with me. If anyone else has anything available, please post. Maybe I can help with transporting it to the new owner.

I have bielefelder pair, chocolate orp cockerel (bantam I'm assuming), splash blrw cockerel (unless lonelypageturner wants him back), white silkie cockerel (beautiful!) and a blue with silver silkie cockerel, young splash modern game bantam cockerel, blue/splash partridge brahma cockerels, and 2 young light brahma chicks. All are outside except the light brahmas.

You're going the wrong direction!! Lol.

You're going the wrong direction!! Lol.

Haha. Yea except my chickens aren't up north!

Btw, LOVED your pictures! You failed to let me know you had Patagonian cavies as well! Do y have a coatimundi? Muntjac deer? Those are also my favorites. Do you subscribe to the Animal Finders Guide? How do you find all these awesome animals?

My aunt had a coatimundi previously but sold it because she adopted 6 young kids; I will definitely have one in the future (I actually recently turned the old coatimundi cage into a big chicken coop). I really want a muntjac or 2 eventually. I think they're just lovely.
I am subscribed to AFG, but the only ones I've gotten from there are the cavies. I mostly get them through the exotic animal auction that is in Topeka (by shipshewana) twice a year. I also have an exotic animal broker in Wisconsin that finds me pretty much anything I want.

These ones are just for you, Brad. :p His name was Sherman and he was the sweetest little guy. Sadly, he was sold to me while he was sick and I was unaware. That's the problem with auctions, I guess.

That is awesome! Such a cute little guy! I can't wait to have one or two. I've also considered Tamandua but when I researching them it sounded like they had a lot of health issues in captivity. I also wouldn't mine genets. Ok, maybe it would be easier to list the animals I DONT want lol.

We almost bought a sloth, but they are also known for health issues and being hard to keep, so we got Lilly (the kangaroo) instead. And I'm very glad we did! You should go to the auction. It's the first weekend of May and the first weekend of October. Very worth it. They also sell A LOT of chickens on Friday. And the food is great... All Amish made.

Well all I can say I that I am very Happy with my birds. It is hard not to be proud of them when they do so well. Especially with most of them being so young. Those Ameraucanas were only hatched in mid march. Ended up with reserve grand champion, champion, reserve champion, 5 first place, 5 second place, 1third, 1 fourth, 1 fifth and i won Senior showmanship. And to top it off out of the none birds running for champion an grand champion, five of the were mine. I have To grab so extra. Hands to help me show lol. A great start to the Show year. Two shows coming up quick in august. Will be at the state fair showing twice. Let me know if any of you will be up there. I will have plenty. Of time for chatting throughout the days!

PS: On the poison ivy - Anyone have any non-toxic/non-chemical ways to kill PI? I'll try whatever works!

I'm even thinking I'd hire someone to remove it if I could find a place that does it without chemicals that would hurt the animals.
I have used straight ammonia, or bleach at the root of the plant. best done at the peak of the day when the ground is dry. Many farmers use ammonia derivative to kill weeds. I rarely have a reaction to it and did have it on my legs last week! So its killer stuff this year

Bleach is safer than a lot of products out there if used carefully and properly.

My black kid and my brown kid.

I got asked if i was starting a zoo on FB because I now have chickens and 2 goats. Crazy what some people think of farm animals.

adorable, and I love the ears!

Quote: Are they nubian? I have Bo, my buck but he is oberhasli. I think there are a few other members that may have a nubian buck

ETA: Breed isn't really that important unless you intend to keep purebred, papered and registered stock. My guys are not papered, and I don't ask a lot for the kids. I would be very proud to own registered goats! I have also learned a mixed breed goat is usually hardy, just like any other animal. I guess its just what an individual plans for their own herd. We are just looking at our own "herd" for personal use.. Milk and pets.
I kid in the fall also, so I don't have the fear of a chilled kid as much. I still prepare for a lamp, but August has went very well for us for kidding. Sugar may be late, I dont think the first breeding took, but suspect she is pregnant now

I did a 2nd breeding Late in april to be sure. Still waiting on Ms Sophie my basketball goat LOL! Milk is fully in. she is still playing with Sugar, and being a normal goat.
