INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Evening all! I was to NEVER burn poison ivy because it can do some real damage if inhaled. So when I encounter it, I pull it up roots and all( with gloves on of course) and spray the whole area with brush killer. I repeat when necessary.
When you pull it up, how long does it stay away? I was thinking about pulling the small area then salting the ground there.

I know the eye area is very "tricky". I did go and have the NP take a look at it and right now the eye is not affected. I got the steroid pack but haven't used it yet. I decided to give it a couple days to see how it goes.

In the meantime I'm following a "non-steroid" protocol and keeping close observation.

ETA: I have a person that may have a couple boer wethers that I'll get if she's ready to sell. They get to go in the larger woods and do houscleaning! Then butcher out this fall.

I've had 2 tree trimmers this year say they were dropping some off for me and they never did! I'm getting a complex. Maybe place a call to Ponder Tree Service in Greenwood. The thing is you need to have a large area for the trimmings. Maybe a 10 x 10 foot area at least. Also the truck is of decent size and needs to be able to get to the spot.

Quote: Dh and I know the people at Ponders Tree service and so far they have been in our area enough that we have not run out of chips. It would be nice to get another 2-3 drop offs before winter. The thing is that we don't always know when they are coming. It is just when they are in my area nd the collection truck is full.

Hydroxyzine isn't a steroid, its an antihistamine. It is particularly good at targeting topical reactions like poison ivy. As a lifetime chronic sufferer I strongly recommend it.

Also I was kidding about burning the ivy, don't do that. I was not kidding about salting the earth. Its the only thing I've found that keeps it from coming back.

One other thing that helps is eliminating surrounding flora- p.i. likes shade.

Hum my run area is big enough the problem is getting it in. There's only a 4 ft gate for access :( I may have to make some phone calls.

So excited to head to Racin's tomorrow to pick up a roo, and see his setup. Found out we'll be really close to SallyinIndiana's too, so we will be swinging by there too to see her setup and meet her new kids (the goat kind!). Looking forward to a great afternoon!
