I s this Wry Neck???


Honey has come down with something. not eating well, drinking very little, legs spread apart wide and will not stand on her feet, she loses her ballance and falls over, is cold and still has that sneezing thing I posted a video on.
This is what I have done so far. brought her in the house, put her on a heating pad, gave her Poly-Vi-Sol without iron, and also put a full dropper full in her water, water bowel is a sm one, put game/showbird feed 18% in feed bowel.
Any help will you can give I will be so grateful. I already lost her mate don't want to lose her.
o and her head and neck stays in one of those 2 spots pictured.

Hi all - just wanted to post an update from our dog attack from july 09 that killed 3 hens & severely damaged our Iowa Blue Rooster :
Well, one month later he's still alive - we've had to hold him up 3~4 times a day to eat; had antibiotic shots for the first couple weeks; had been using triple antibiotic ointment on 1/3 of his body, then switched to a prescription cream after that for the bite/puncture wounds. He has lost alot of weight. He is able to hop around on his good leg, but his injured may not ever function again (but we hope it will eventually).
We started saving all the eggs we could after that to put into the incubator, thinking just in case he didnt make it or may never sire babies again . hatch is expected around aug 20th - also have some EEs & some of his son's added to fill it up. So depending on how many hatch, there's a good chance we'll have some IaB chicks (& EEs) available if anyone might be interested in some. we are due to candle tomorrow nite & then again before lockdown.

Glad to hear he is getting better a little anyway. he is very pretty, so is his son. Hoping for a full recovery.

I built a communal next box for my Bielies. Heiser the rooster was in there immediately clucking up a storm. He is so ginormous he barely fit. The Bielie pullets are smaller, I hope they fit! I did make it extra large for them but it still looked small with the rooster crammed in it!

Wow, I can't even imagine how big the boys must be! Violet is finally starting to look significantly bigger than the other babies. I use cat litter buckets for my chicken coop nests, so here's hoping that's big enough for her once she's laying! (If not, well, I already have one hen that makes her nest on the floor... )

Btw, when I've used that type of brooder light, I've found that they easily come apart, so I made this pictorial last spring when there were so many members using clamp lamps for brooders. Good info on safety measures. I wanted to make note of something in addition here, though. I have heard that those ceramic bulbs can become loose and fall off, leaving exposed wires and such, so be careful with those! Also, for those with clamp lamps in your brooders, be aware that the 250 watt bulbs are WAAAAY TOO HOT for either purpose!! I don't even know why they sell them with brooder clamp lamps! :/ Before I switched to EcoGlows for my brooder, I used a 70 - 100 watt bulb at the most in my clamp lamp and it was more than enough for the babies. However, if you plan to brood every year or have several broods in a year, the heat plates like the EcoGlows (and the Premier1 one whose name I don't remember) are well worth investing in! Just my two cents.

Now back to sleep... (what does it say about me that when I wake up in the middle of the night I check my threads on BYC?)

Your post made me chuckle because I do the same thing. If I have to come downstairs in the middle of the night to let the dogs out, I spend my time waiting for them by checking the posts. I'm sure we're not the only two, too!

Guilty! The last thing I do every day is curl up in bed and check BYC from my phone.

Anyone else have a molting flock already? My girls are losing feathers left and right and are moody as all get out as a result! I'm having to break up squabbles all over the place! Luckily, for the most part, they're just looking scruffy. My Fayoumi, Marama, is about bare, though. I'm just glad she's doing this now instead of later on!

These are all so gorgeous! Love Louise's eyes! They look like they are black with green flecks. So pretty. I think this is exactly why a mixed flock is so appealing to me, there is so much beauty in these different kinds of chickens. Is Fayoumi a Japanese breed? Is this the same chicken in your avatar? If so, she has lost a lot of feathers poor dear.

Fayoumis are actually Egyptian, more commonly called Egyptian Fayoumis as a matter of fact. And no, Marama is my Fayoumi and my avatar is my Marans, Frou-Frou. Here's Marama before her molt:

Beautiful birds! By the way, Bielefelders, from my understanding, don't have variety names associated with them, so it would just be Bielefelder. However, I don't see a Bielie among your birds. Here's my young Bielefelder, Violet, for comparison:

I have read that some folks keep bantie just to brood. But I don't know what breed in particular.

That's the reason I originally got Silkies but I've never had one go broody nor my bantam Cochin! Lol I have plenty of LF go broody though!

Unheard of! Seriously, what's wrong with your Silkies? My Silkie, Marge, is brooding more often than she's not! Okay, I feel caught up now. P.S. Y'all, my one viable call duck egg has entered lockdown! e Estimated hatch date is Tuesday! Fingers crossed for one little ducky to hatch!!

See, that's what I mean.  I used to have hair like that, and I couldn't see a thing.  Always walking into walls and doors and such.

But Hoosier- you were blinded by those mini skirts and low rise hip huggles too! Inattention is why u were walking into walls not the hair. Lol

I'm sure I have a few more from the other brooder but I'm still waiting on them.

I will eventually have some Beautiful Black Copper Marans Roos as I have 4 from March but I'm still growing them out to pick the best type.
I'm so bummed though. .I have a BCM roo that I hatched last year and Wow he is really really looking good BUT he lost all..yes all of his toes this past winter and I watched him try mating yesterday and the poor thing couldn't get a grip. Maybe he'll have success if the girl submits but this one wasn't.
I'll post a pic of him after bit. He's much better looking than his father. I paired him nicely. Just wish he had his toes! Geez!

Which auction do you take your roosters to? It is looking like we are going to be processing a lot of roosters between now and winter. I would be willing to sell off a few.
Right now I have:
2 buff brama's 5 months or so old
1 heritage mutt about 7 months old
3 BR mixes about 5 months old
lots (10-15) red mutt roosters around 3 months old

The 6 listed at the top are slated for processing on 8/24 so if anyone is interested in those, please message me before then.

The smashed chick died, the other egg was cracked so I placed it in my heater blanket on low with a warm washcloth. She just hatched!

Sorry about the one chick, but yaaa for the other! That will probably be the best chicken you have. The ones that need your help the most, always turn out the sweetest.
