INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Well I was offered the new job today. While I still havent accepted it im pretty confident I will! Im excited about the change.

That being said, I may have more flocks to sell. Gonna have less time at home so may need to sell more projects. If anything it will be a few more free ranging birds and silkies. But ill be sure to post here first.

Well I know of a great home for your bantam Cochins!! Any or all of them, manly the partridge set!!!!!!!!!! Just an FYI

Congratulations on the new job. I too can't believe you are giving up a lowes discount.

Congratulations on the new job.  I too can't believe you are giving up a lowes discount.
thanks. Yes I will really miss the deals but hopedully ill maintain the connection and friendship of coworkers and managers and still get good deals. Plus my brother has military discount so I wont miss the standard 10% off. Just things like shed kits for $75, brand new front load washer/dryer set for $500 (originally $2000), or $1000 dishwasher for $100. Lowes has been good to me in that sense but over the past 3 years its gone down hill as a company. I think it was 3yrs ago now I took a 20% pay cut when they took away commissions. Since then more benefits have continued to disappear and the joy and excitement of selling just isnt there anymore. Hopefully the grass will be greener! Lol

Afternoon peeps! Well after some thinking about a game we could play on here, this is what I came up with.... The Name Game or Who's that? To play all you have to do is post a pic or vid of any random thing that come to mind( Ex: Characters from a show, any animals, food stuff, ect). After you post wait for at lease 15 mins before you post again( This will give people a chance to guess what the thing). So what do you guys think? I would like to add that this game should only be played when nobody is saying anything important( Ex: Like late at night, early in the morning or if no one has wrote anything after about an hour or so.)
Love this idea! Once I get all caught up on the thread I am looking forward to playing it :)

Thanks for the info, I will get it added to the map and calendar pages! :)
Hello everyone! I haven't posted in awhile, but I wanted to give an update on my rooster who was attacked by a weasel back in June and received a punctured eye and two head wounds. I bring good news about him!

Against all odds, the guy made it through

. In June we did find him a vet and they gave us antibiotics for his eye and painkillers, but the visits were getting expensive and in July, we had to stop taking him. Things didn't look bright in July for him. He started to lose weight fast, stopped drinking again, and I couldn't give him antibiotic since it was becoming a hassle to secure him and not hurt him more

Then things started to turn for the good. I noticed one day, little worms in his poop and immediately did some research on parasitic chicken worms. Came to the conclusion, that he had contracted roundworms someday before the attack. I got him some Wazine 17 to treat it. I also noticed that his feathers were a little fluffed up. I figured that meant he was cold and was trying to retain body so I put a heat lamp over him. Within an hour of that, he started to drink again, but I was still worried about his eye since I wasn't giving him the antibiotic.
Fast forward to about the first to second week of August...
We decided we would take him to the vet at least one more time since he improved so much. The vet was surprised of his comeback and said that all that needed to be done for him was to clean his eye a bit everyday and that he didn't have worms anymore

I wanted to get a good picture of him, but I'm not the best photographer and he moves a lot

Today, he's still in the house until we build something just for him and his wounds have healed up nicely, but won't be able to see out of his that was punctured again, but I'm just glad he's still alive

Glad to hear this good news! Also added it to the events page for others to read. :)

It's not a chicken but it's awesome lol

My daughters new Ragdoll kitten, a mink.
Do you say ragdoll cause you can hold onto it any which way and it doesn't care? Cause I have one of those and had a lot of cats, but never one like this. She lays in the oddest positions too. Very cute pic! :)
Here's some pics of our chicks (& hen) for sale:

I just love this pic! Great shot!

Milton KY. is having a swap this weekend. its just across the new bridge from Madison In. they usually have a pretty good turnout. end of the yr. pricing lol i cant go because my foot is mucked up . its at the fairgrounds.
Thank you for the info! I will research and get it added to the calendar and map for future swaps. :)

Hi everyone. Just wanting to check in. I lost a bird today, noob mistake. I started getting the coup winter ready. I took down the chicken wire under the roost boards as there were no mamas/ babies using it, and I moved the nest boxes under that space. Well no hens were laying in it. They were all just making nests in the deep litter in the corners. I moved a board to block off the corners to leave them really no options but the boxes, and one hen got back behind the wood, then couldn't get out, looks like she got her head wedged and broke her neck. Needless to say, all corners are now open. I just feel sick about it. I got 4 eggs today, so I know my hens are upset about it too. A couple of them just came to sit on me and rest their head under my arm. Even the feral kittens followed me around all night and got within a couple of feet away from me, I could have reached out and touched them tonight. Feeling pretty bummed all night.

I'm sorry to hear of the other deaths, chickens and ducks. I am very glad to hear others are healing well. Sending good hatching vibes to all those eggs!

Deb
Really sorry to hear that. :(

Has anyone been to dinky's auction lately? How much is a laying pullet selling for there?
Sorry, didn't end up going. My cousin hasn't gone in a few weeks either so I am not sure what they are selling for atm.

I found eggs in milltown Indiana, she sells her fertile eggs 10$ a dozen. Should I be concerned about buying eggs could the eggs pass on a illness to my hens?

some illnesses can be passed in the eggs to the chicks that hatch then from the chicks to any other chickens they are put in with. I'm almost certain a hen or rooster with MG can breed chicks that are hatched with MG.

@kittydoc I recently trimmed my two Silkies "bangs," and their personalities immediately emerged. They could see well! They became much more outgoing and active--so active that Ditzy had an overnight escape. Smalty became much more assertive and challenges my flock leader RIR Nene! Smalty is pictured on previous page although her eye is difficult to see since she is dark. Minminme~ Love the photos of your Silkies! :) @pginsber ~ That youtube link was great, too! :D Nothing is original anymore. :/ @kabhyper1 ~ Thanks for the shampoo tips! Maybe I could devise a reverse shower cap drape that leaves the Silkie poof open, but covers the Silkie's ears and nose. :p [rule]Here's a photo of our green, thin leaf Japanese Maple that the chickens love. It used to belong to the cats, but the cats were chased away. haha The LF chickens gather underneath the canopy while the tiny bantams perch on wildly curved branches. Here's my Mille Fleur roo.
Just so I don't rain on someone else's parade nor take credit for someone else's accomplishments...those weren't my birds. I was quoting something someone else said about Kabs birds. They are beautiful though wish I could take credit and they were mine!

I was afraid something might be able to passed through the eggshell, I'm going to call the lady and cancel. I don't want to bring anything into my flock. If she lets me see her flock would I be able to tell if they have MG?
