INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Here are some pics of the kids.

The boys I helped hatch, they are inside a dog crate inside the coop so everyone will live happily together once I decide to let them out. Hopefully!!!

Here are the turkey poults. They are in their hoop coop for a couple weeks so they know where home is. Hopefully this works lol. There are 12 of them. I think I have 6/6. 4 strut their stuff and turn very red in the face already. 2 more just turn red in the face. The others 6 have more hair on their necks/head area and look more petite shaped. I'm probably going to keep 2 boys and 3 girls. The rest will be freezer bound.

So, does anyone on here know anything about fish? I bought some fish today at Uncle Bill's pet store. One of which was a pregnant dalmation molly. I have never had a pregnant fish before. Do I need to sepearate her? I was talking to my grandma today and she was saying that she thinks most fish try and eat there babies. I was surprised, I mean that they don't take care of them. I thought that they would at least show them where food is and stuff, but I guess not lol. I mean at least broodies try and point there, usually non biological chicks, in the right directions. I guess in some aspects chickens have ruined my view on other things lol.

Also I never really thought about this until now, but I hope there aren't any permits or laws pertaining to swap meets that I am not aware of. I am off to research

Looks like my Partridge Cochin bantam eggs I got from Brad are Fertile!!! They're was a little question if they were or not! I'm pretty stoked that they are and all four are growing after 3 days! And all 6 of my BLRW eggs are also growing! Got to give a big thanks to kabhyper1 and her DH for helping out today! Some big steps were taken with a couple of our horses!

Haha. I have half a dozen eggs incubating right now. Once I get them going, I hope to be able to share eggs/chicks from them next year. But they still need to hatch before I get too excited! They go into lockdown tomorrow! Really getting nervous now.

OK I'm two days behind because of projects here at home, did they hatch yet???

Typically there is a little plastic container that clips on side of tank. It has holes/slots for the fry to go back and forth into a protected area.

due to hatch Tuesday I believe. Went into lockdown yesterday.

I really, really, really hate moving birds around! They NEVER go into the coops on their own at bed time. Such a pain to go out after dark and try to corral them into the coops.

I have not and don't know anyone who has. I wish you the best, though! How long are the eggs typically in transit? I hate risking eggs across country. I can't imagine across the ocean!

I'm not sure how long the eggs are in transit, but I've read reports from a good number of people who have had success with internationally shipped eggs. I already have a contact in the UK who is going to ship me the eggs when I am ready and I will ask her about the quickest way to get them here and approximately how long it might take. London is about twice the distance from Indiana as Los Angeles - but I figure all of the miles will be by air and most likely only take about two days-three tops; - however I also don't know if/how shipped eggs go through customs and how much time that might take. This whole thing will definitely be a learning process for me. I plan to go to downtown Anderson tomorrow during my lunch hour to activate my level 2 account with the USDA. From there, I'm not sure what the next steps are and how long it will take me to actually get my permit. I'm hoping it will be quick, because I would like to get my eggs from the UK before we run into really cold weather here. Otherwise, it will have to wait until spring, because I won't risk both intercontinental AND freezing weather for shipped eggs. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

I forgot to post a pic earlier of my two newest additions - a 4 month old pair of blue peafowl that I have named Bogie and Bacall :)
