Yeah, is it me or is it really hard to capture that color in a picture? Actually, it's not just them--seems like most of my girls with wildtype partridge-based colorations are tricky to get good pictures of! My Dorkings, my Legbar, and Violet, here, especially.

I think that's an Easter-egger thing! I have a sweet, if somewhat air-headed Easter-egger that gives me the same kind of look.

Yes, I have 2 EEs with the muffs & beards. Each has a similar look, but a completely diff personality.
My pretty golden one is sarcastically named Einstein due to her lack of intelligence. Sweet personality, likes to follow me around, but very dumb. Easily gets lost in our yard & has no problem solving ability.
My fearless black & white EE (named Tyrion) was thought to be a roo because of her confident attitude. Smallest of the batch but pecked the nose of our 100lb dog because it was there. Always runs toward people (even strangers) and once chased a hawk away. Curiosity will be her demise.

Very nice looking group. This is just my op. is what I would do personally, ( some don't agree ) At that age I would give heat, but I would and do and have,, put a divider up that will hold heat on one side and be open enough that they could get to it IF they wanted it. It worked great for my Silkies early Spring when I just had to get them outside, It was still chilly out a bit.

You are a good momma, your instincts have always sounded good to me.

Thank you, I ended up lowing the heat lamp even more for them at night (getting down to the low 50s). I will go this weekend to get a warming plate for them. They seem to LOVE the coop. I go in at least twice a day, changing out their water and handling them (so I can as they get older). The roo tests me tho.... comes and pecks at my foot. They seem to love the new area though. I have been checking around the building every day... I see no signs of anything trying to get in. So I think, so far, so good

No stupid questions at all, just being a good chicken mom! Handsome lil guy! And adorable flock too.
There is a lot of good discussion on heated coops. I don;t heat all my coops, I only heat the birds that need it in a single coop. I also watch for severe temps, some species can't tolerate subzero temps period. Naturally feathered large frame birds usually won't need heat, but each of us have to decide that for ourselves. (muscovy for example, mine wouldn't stay inside their house!) But our winter last year was harsher than the norm also. I have learned to plan in advance for those situations now.

I am sure they will probably do ok without the heat... but I don't want them to be unhappy chicks. I think I will provide a warming plate for them during the winter so they have that if they want it - but want to get the lamp out of there cause I am afraid of fire. Since I got the pullet surprise, I don't know what breeds I got... so it's hard to say if they will do ok with colder weather or not. I just don't want to lose any due to my lack of knowledge - hence why I am here

Also... another NOOB question..... apparently once of my girls was sitting below another and well, got pooped on..... whats the best wa to clean them?? It's kinda gross! LOL

I THINK THAT EE'S ALL LOOK GRIM. GRIM, I TELL YOU. You can always tell you're looking at an EE by the grim look.

@kabhyper1 This is the girl what was completely bare backed last summer and fall. This photo shows her after the molt and re-growth. She's completely bald-backed again all this summer and I just noticed she's getting her pins now. All my girls are molting so she must be too.

If you are looking for real egg producers, I highly recommend Jaerjon. If you read up on them and are interested, let me know. I have hatching eggs, or I could hatch some chicks for you.

Oooohhhhh, it is so cute! I have six Ayam Cemani eggs in my incubator right now and I am so nervous! I am a bit concerned because when I received the eggs, they weren't very clean and had been marked up with a lot of marker, so I was afraid to do much to clean them up a bit more, thinking I would probably smear the marker and make things worse. They just went in on Sunday, so I'll be on pins and needles for the next three weeks!


Have you had any more AC hatch out since this one and how many eggs did you have in? I'll be hoping with you that you've got yourself a pullet!

Good luck with your hatch! No others hatched for me but have 2 more eggs incubating. Hopefully they hatch.

I also have a quad of silkies available (1 roo, 3 hens). Not exactly sure what color to call them, splash partridge? Perhaps? Here are a couple pictures to give you any idea of their color. I'll be working on getting more pictures soon. Well I'll continue to try to upload pics. Doesn't seem tobe working right now
