Hello and welcome! Please feel free to post anytime. We have several thread members from different states. I should have named us "Friendly BYCer's here" instead

Good post! My FIL suggested this too, we haven't got around to getting blanks yet tho. I have a lot of large bushes fortunately. all it takes is one rooster growl and everyone is dashing to hide.
This evening, I heard my neighbor on the hill yelling COYOTE and heard several shotgun blasts! I asked DH to please stop over there and make sure his flock and my peas are ok! All this going on tells me we are in for a bad winter, wildlife is foraging hard already. Coyote worry me for sure.

The cost of the 12 gauge shell is pretty pricy and they do not explode until a fairly long ways off. You might try whistling bottle rockets with a report. These can be fired from a short pipe (aprox 2 ft.) by placing the fuse on the edge of the pipe and then pointing it in t6he proper direction and light the fuse. There are a fair amount of places around that sell fireworks year round.

:fl :fl

I started with the intent to just replace my old flock, butt......... lol
are those Nigerian Dwarfs? They are so darn cute...

Thank you

They are 3/4 Nigerian Dwarf and 1/4 Pygmy :)
The doe is half and half.

We got them for milk before we did a lot of research on breeds and we only got about 2 cups a day from the 3 does so we decided to go with lamancha for the milk. We have since sold all but four of our minis. Here is our Lamancha and her twins.

We have since sold the buckling but we decided to keep the doeling. She is very full of personality and it comes through in all her pics :)

Congrats!!

I am the same way with counting my chickens. I did the math a couple weeks ago and was way off on the total. I had been telling people we had 25 chickens and we really had more. When I count , I count in groups not with a total.

WOW! I wish we had the property to hold that many.

I'm still not willing to give an accurate head count yet. With my daughter's 3H project, my science classes, & the misc. schools we helped hatch eggs, we had A LOT of temporary chicks. The numbers would rise & fall weekly, so it was pointless to count. Now that fall is here, I need to make some final decisions soon. I'm hoping to end up with 10-12, but that means 3-5 must go. Hard to do when they all have names.

Thank you!

I'm sure I can find some recent ones...

Here is a short video of Farrah (silkie) and Amy (BR) trying to occupy the same spot in the dust bath: http://instagram.com/p/tVnla0MPMe/

Looks like I have mostly taken vids lately!

Lynda (silkie) and Amy with the guineas. The guineas, the silkies, and my BR keep themselves in one flock. The EEs keep together away from them. http://instagram.com/p/svEWnFsPOd/

Otis, the EE rooster before his tail feathers got pulled out (I think by the guineas): http://instagram.com/p/rnKCUIsPCz/

I guess I don't have a super recent pic of Gayle, except for the one on top of the swingset: http://instagram.com/p/spYlxwMPDZ/?modal=true

Amy is so pretty!! She has such neat, clean barring! :love Otis is a handsome little fellow, too. I've heard that Guinea fowl, particularly male Guineas, don't tend to like roosters, so it is a good possibility that they've pulled his tail feathers out.

Oh, Kab, I definitely didn't mean to imply anything by my post! I just meant I always have that number in my mind because I count them every night, so I can't ever say I forgot there was no space left and somehow end up with more chickens...

Fingers crossed for a good hatch with your paint Silkies! :fl I was reading about them not too long ago. It would be interesting to do some crosses between colors to see what the outcome is. I guess the genetics behind paint aren't well known yet. Such an interesting thing to wonder about!
