Wow!!! He is gorgeous!!!

Thanks! I'm very proud of him. I can't wait til spring! Given they both make it through til then.

I've had so many predator problems in the past month. I have had at least an adult pair and at least 10 from spring hatches killed. I'm not gone often but the few times a week I have been have been very painful! My adult Ameraucana pair were the first at different times in a week which I thought odd, a cuckoo Marans cock and both my Naked Necks just to name a few! Some by opossum as my dog got him. .the others I believe dog since they were either left dead or damaged so badly to die..others by hawks which I came up on a few times scaring it ..some I just found a pile of feathers! It's been crazy awful!

Here is our Ferdinand meeting our girls for the first time!

Wait till the chickens get a little bigger. Then you might have trouble finding Ferdinand in the mix. That's how it is when I let my chihuahua out in the yard with the chickens. Most of them are bigger than Peyton. But they all seem to just mind their own business. It's quite funny when I throw treats ( scraps) in the yard becuase Peyton is right in the middle of all the chickens trying to get hers.

I am so mad! A little at myself, too! I just noticed the feed we've been buying for the girls for a few weeks now has been medicated! :he Is TSC the only place in the area that caries a non-medicated all-flock feed?! The real kicker is that the only difference between the labels on the medicated and non-medicated feed bags is a little strip of red on the ingredients label.

Now, duck people, I have about 10 days of medicated feed and we are 4 days to possibly bringing home ducks. I know ducklings shouldn't have medicated feed, but what about adult ducks? Should I just feed it to them or should I try and find a bag of non-medicated for them? I'll be switching to a non-medicated feed as soon as possible, of course, but still have all this feed to get rid of. :/ This is just so frustrating!

Hi there, we're Shane and Courtney from Indianapolis. We got our 8 sweet girls in June and are nearly finished with our coop. We were excited to see an Indiana thread here! Here's a pic of some of our girls and our coop. We have 4 Ameraucanas (Vivienne, Mona, Opal, & Harriet), 2 Barred Rocks (Maude & Myrtle), a Buff Orpington (Agnes), and Ginger our Rhode Island Red.

:welcome I love that coop interior!! Beautiful job! :) I just wanted to say, though, your Ameraucanas are actually gorgeous Easter-eggers. I love the black one in the background of that second picture! The brown one in the same picture looks quite a lot like one of my Easter-eggers, Cressida, when she was younger.

We are for sure planning to go to the Lebanon show :yesss: . I have sworn myself to not buy birds. (note to self, do not bring cages!) Chicken breeds, my most wanted breed is still the coronation sussex. It would be very hard for me to pass them up! I am still thinking hard about pheasant, but I would go with ringnecks... Its just the thought of a permit, another coop. But they are really interesting. I do want to look at them more if they are there. Maybe just bring one cage, hehehe ;) If I found the white or melanistic hybrid, I would probably bring some home. They are just beautiful birds. So, what time is good to go? This will be my very first time to attend a show, ever. And will be wearing my shirt! DH has about worn his out, he likes it.

@pipdzipdnreadytogo ~ Rosie is a doll! I'd keep her as a house chicken. haha
Isn't she, though? :love And she was so patient with me when I was sewing that sweater on her. Such a sweetie! I would love to keep her as a house chicken if it weren't for 3 dogs and 4 cats that would love a small chicken snack. Speaking of her, I ended up taking that sweater off of her after all that work, but she seems so much happier now. Her feathers are opening up pretty well now, so hopefully she'll be pretty well covered when the temp drops again.

Thank you! Yeah, our garden center sold them as ameraucana/auracana so we assumed they were likely Easter Eggers. It's awesome how different they all are considering how similar they all looked as babes!

Processing a pig sounds like a really big job. I'd like to learn how to process a chicken someday. At this point I could never eat one of my girls, but I've done enough lab dissections to know I'm not squeamish. I even watched the process on youtube. (Honestly, I think you could learn just about anything there.) Do most people raise & butcher their own meat birds or do you take them somewhere when they're ready? For now we're just in it for the eggs, but perhaps someday....
