You might be able to find a shed on CL for less than the cost of building supplies. There is one in the Indy craigslist for $200. It is rather cute and would make a great coop. I don't have a way to move it though and it is located in Carmel a bit north of Indy. Also I would have to take it apart to get it into the duck area or use it in my goat area. IMy husband and I live outside of Paragon. We only have 7 pullets and a rooster. My daughter fell in love with the chickens when they had them at Rural King this past Spring. My mantra use to be "Nothing with feathers." My daughter has always wanted a peacock. Well, I was out voted and now we have our own "flock". We would love to get more, but the coop we bought is too small. I am looking to buy or build another one soon. We spent way too much on the first one, so we are trying to be a little more frugal this time around.
We have 6 Buff Orpingtons Pullets, 1 Buff Rooster and 2 Ameraucanas. I would love to get some Rhode Island Reds and Plymouth Rocks. I also need a breed that lays white eggs. My dad won't eat a "wild" egg. So I am going to fake him out with "wild" white eggs. LOL I also want to see if he and I can surprise my husband with a bigger coop.
My 9 year old daughter loves going out in the morning and afternoon collecting eggs. These birds have been a God-Send to us. My daughter has Aspergers and has several severe sensory issues. She loved the soft little chicks and will actually spend time outside to be near the flock. I feel funny calling 8 animals a flock. LOL She is normally an indoor girl. It is fantastic to see her feel so excited about finding the eggs. She wants more chickens and I will do what I can to keep her interested.
I am so happy to have other Hoosiers to get information from that have been in this game longer. Maybe getting some coop ideas.

These could make great dust bath areas in the runs next spring. I have enough for now or else I would take them.
Just wanted to take a minute to relay some horrible news...at least its horrible for me. Some of you met my baby girl, Chickee, at Chickenfest this year, I only have a couple more days with her. She's been my constant companion for 9yrs. I took her to the Vet today because she's been snapping at the children I babysit and grabbed my arm yesterday for no reason. Turns out she has cancer. There's a mass the size of a baseball in her abdomen (that I didn't know was there).
And she has some dementia, vet said the cancer has already begun to metasticize. We can not afford a surgery and treatments so...she is going to go live with my sister on Tuesday (FYI my sister passed Nov 19, 2012). I had the little girl I babysit with me today and she wouldn't understand all that was happening so there's been an appointment made for next Tuesday. I'm so not looking forward to next week!!!

Loved the pic's! Especially the first one, he looks tired.
Update on my respiratory issues and treating with Tylan.
Things went pretty well, and it has really cleared up most of my birds. The chickens with the worst problems are now symptom free. I still have at least two turkeys with issues and I think I know why. It rained almost the entire time I was treating my birds, and since my turkeys free range pretty much all the time now, they had many puddles to drink from instead of the waterers, so they weren't getting the medicine. For some reason, my birds will walk by a sparkling clean waterer to drink from a muddy poopy puddle.
So I'm going to catch all the remaining birds with issues (which will be fun, since they are the ones that tend to free range the most and the farthest). I'll lock them up in my largest pen for a week where they will only have medicated water to drink from. I'll also medicate the other waterers to prevent the last few from passing it back to the ones that were cured. I couldn't do that before, since at the moment I don't have the room to lock up all my birds. The weather also looks a bit more cooperative for this. This will delay my next chicken processing day a couple weeks because of the withdrawal period, but I can handle that.
YESI did end up going to Dinky's last weekend and my parents actually came with my cousin and I for the first time! There were some really good deals on apples (I got 1/2 peck for $3.49-paid $11 for the same size up north!). Lots of large animals were for sale too-mostly looked like people selling males to thin the herd before it gets too cold.
Full grown pullets were going for about $5 each. There were also rabbits and many nearly grown guineas for auction too. We stocked up on Amish baked goods, cheese, gum, candy and apples and only stayed at the poultry barn for a short while before heading back home.

Nice pics. I've never seen a peacock fly before. That's neat.
In our neighborhood, the ducks like to hang out on the rooftops. Quite a sight the 1st time I saw a mallard on our house. I shouted to DH for him to come & see. Of course my commotion caused Mr Mallard to leave, so I got teased a bit. Eventually, DH saw for himself, but by then I was already labeled as the girl who called "duck!" I believe those ducks taught their offspring, because every spring & summer for the last 17 years, we see them up there as well as other rooftops. I lived near a pond growing up. I saw wild ducks there regularly, and I also saw them fly. It never occurred to me that they could fly & land on a slanted roof. Kind of like the peacock. I know they're birds, but I've only seen them in zoos. I never really pictured them flying. Do they fly up on your roof?
Here are some pictures from lebanon.
All of these are my birds that I showed.
And I couldn't of been more proud of this guy! He is a 7 month old black ameraucana and won reserve AOSB! He got beat by a sumatras (the seems to happen at every show i go to, the sumatras beat the AMs, but AMs are a newer breed).
Here is a picture of him at home
This is my parlor roller pigeon that I got a few weeks ago.
And it didn't upload the pictures of the birds I bought at the show, so I will post them later.
I only have Pekin and MuscovyAnyone raise pastel call ducks?
