INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm downsizing our duck flock still. I have Khakis for sale or trade right now. We will be processing more roosters tomorrow followed by the ducks if we have enough time. I say that every processing day and something has come up so far to spare many of the ducks. A handful of ducks have not been spared and they were rather tasty. Just not a lot of meat on the female khaki ducks.

Okay, so I don't have a horse.  But when I look at that net I wonder what keeps them from chewing right through it?  And maybe eating some net in the process?

I've had horses rip nets when the holes are too small but never eat the net. They focus on the hay that sticks out of the holes. Horses try not to eat foreign things if at all possible, it can end up in serious colic. When the foods gone, they move on to look else where.

@ Kittydoc, my serama isnt eating and hasnt pooped yet. I think i have tried every thing except tube feeding. managed to get 3 swallows today w// yogurt and some vitamins sprinkled on top. been dipping it beak in vitamin water for 2 days now. doesnt seem to want to peck. it is day 4 and it is so tiny i cant see nostrils. any suggestions , anyone ??
I'm sorry, I didn't see your post until today (I don't think the @ format was quite right, but sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn't anyway). I'm almost afraid to ask, but what has happened in the meantime?

I feel ya. My hens had dropped to 2 or 3 eggs a day out of 25ish that are old enough. Last week I haven't gotten a single egg. I even put a light in their house on a timer. I hadn't been messing with that the last few winters. Right now they're getting to be expensive "pets"

I even have been giving them some warm, hard boiled eggs from time to time but still nada.

I have over 40 and no eggs.

I have over 40, and only 3-5 eggs a day, one is duck egg others are Pullet eggs.

I have a random project and am hoping you guys might have a good idea on how to accomplish it easily and cheaply! I want to build four slow feeders for my horses hay. They eat way too fast and waste a ton. I originally had an idea to build them out of plastic food grade barrels, but they are SUPER hard to find!!! I have not entirely given up on that idea, but then I saw this and thought it was really cool! It is easy to fill from the back, just toss the hay in.

They are over $300 each to purchase! But I already have the netting, I just need some ideas on how to make the frame. The opening at the top could even be round. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make something like this? I don't think the metal sheeting is necessary, but I could pretty easily use canvas or tarp if I decided I needed something to block the wind. I am most befuddled by the frame. PVC might be doable but seems like it could be flimsy against a horse. @hoosiercheetah

EMT Conduit. Easy Peasy Attaching hardware will depend on where you want to place them.

If you shoot me a couple pics of exactly where you want them, I can help design something and help find hardware and fittings to make it happen.

Something like this could work too, a metal hoop that you could pull up horizontal to the ground, drop the hay in and then it would fall back against the wall and not allow them access to the hay from the top. I wonder if I could find a cheap basket ball rim. Would anything else work?

Something like this might be more difficult to construct, but it's still doable if that's what you want. If you ask me, it's over-complicated.

it only lived 6 days, I just couldnt get it to eat. it wouldnt peck at anything. I gave it egg yolk , yogurt, scrambled eggs, anything i could think of . It pipped wrong end and i think it had fluid in the lungs. Its ok, I asked a lot of people and got some great advise, it just wasnt meant to be.

Had a ton of fun yesterday at the Indiana pigeon show and brought home some birds. One breed that wasn't available to purchase but that I eventually want to own is the Jacobean pigeon. Here is a pic of one that was entered in the competition:

And here are a couple of other birds at the show:

Happy thanksgiving to you too! I love your animations where do you find them?
He is a bourbon red. They are golden until the deep burgundy "red" feathers out. Syd is pretty special :love , he is the last poult of the year and I really needed more toms. The longer neck tells me he is a Tom, YAY!

I know! Straw is super expensive here. Pretty stupid. So I just get the 6ft rolls my guy delivers too. I had 4 good quality 6 foot rolls delivered for $200.

It's expensive here too. Straw comes from wheat, it's the shafts left after they thresh the seeds off the tops. Wheat isn't selling well this year, I think the farmers may be trying to compensate by increasing straw prices. :(
