INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

@granny hatchet I am sorry to hear it. I've had it go both ways with chicks that pip at the wrong end. Most don't make it unless they get lucky and break through completely almost immediately so they can breathe air instead of winding up inhaling egg fluids. I think you are right in your assessment of what happened.

Michiana here. Currently have a Buff Orp flock. I'm interested in obtaining Buckeyes and Silver Dorkings.

There is another pigeon show in Fremont, Ohio on January 3rd.
We have a couple other members that actively raise pigeon and doves, keep posting!

Quote: I think my polish are sold, but awaiting an arrangement. They are a more challenging breed, I have had good luck with them increasing the protein in the feed.

My Red was 3 and still very active. waiting for thoughts on this...

Was really pleasantly surprised today when my two rescued hens gave us a present! Or should I say 4! Have had them for a month with no eggs.

YAY! Rescues are often stressed by relocation. Awesome you gave them a new home.

This is very cool
I found this a while back, its very cool...

Digitized but still amazing.

Quote: Of the three polish I've got, I had a total of 4 eggs all summer. Was pretty frustrated!

My polish didn't start laying until she was about 11 months old

Mine did a lot better on 20% or higher protein feed. All are at or about a year old, my SLP is almost a daily layer. They are more a breed you "want" to keep for their appearance, less a production type bird.
My OEs went to a new home today and I think it made this adorable little girl very happy ... which in turn, made me very happy

Yes. I got her from very good show lines, she was never meant to lay very well.none of the breeds I have did I get for production. I was just chiming in to maybe give people an idea of when and how they lay

Thanks, I couldn't pass up these two cuties :) Red and white sex links (someone's Easter chicks got to be to big to handle. The red is super sweet and follows me everywhere! The white one is still real skiddish.

Howdy all! I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weekend! I spent about 12 hours outside finishing up winterizing projects! Got tarps up on the runs, batteries changed out on the ador doors, fencing up, fence charger fixed (hopefully), heat tape up on hydrants, heated buckets cleaned and hung and barn and coop cleaned. My electric is getting run out to the coop tonight! It feels good to get stuff crossed off the list! My mean roo got "taken care of" on Saturday and the crowing contests have become one sided! My remaining roo has been crowing non stop since mean boy left, I am thinking he is looking for a reply and is going to keep yelling until he gets one! Hopefully he quiets down soon!

Like everyone else, my eggs have been woefully absent. Out of 20 or so hens I am getting one Bielefelder egg a day (not sure which of the four Bielefelder ladies is doing it). Last winter I was still getting a few a day but since they mostly freeze before I get home I don't mind. I can buy eggs for a couple of months if I have to and I figure they deserve at least a bit of a break!

Question, I have had inquiries about Bielie eggs for the beginning of next year. How do you guys collect breeder eggs when the weather is still so bad? Mine will freeze before I get out there to get them? I can add light in January to get them back up and running, but I'm not sure how to deal with the frozen egg problem.

@hoosiercheetah I will get some pictures taken and PM you! I really appreciate your willingness to help with my project!

No duck eggs here since the end of October. This morning one of the girls must have had the urge & popped one out! I'm guessing it was a fluke

Still getting about 2 dozen chicken eggs a day, though. I sell them about as fast as they're laid!
