I'd just like to wave a hand to the fellow Hoosiers out there. Anderson on this end.
Welcome to our thread!

Quote: I do use the hair type bands for ducks and geese also. I have long hair so i never run out of the bands lol.

my turkey hens keep looking for their tom. They prance and pace by his 3 favorite roosting areas and one is squatting for both me and my DH. I thought she was injured the first time she did her little squat and wing spreading.
Thats so sad

fingers crossed you find one soon.

Quote: I wait til they are fairly close to adult size, but my pekin are housed with the geese. I have a grow up pen positioned between the waterfowl and chicken coop so they see don't touch til they join the flocks they belong to.

Hi everybody. I haven't been able to be on in a few months because I have been pretty busy. But I'm going to try and get on more. Hope everyone is doing okay. :)
Great to see you post!

totally agreed! Pullet eggs aren't enough, we go through a lot of eggs. Dec 21st is solstice...
Oh...and the suet cage idea helps for things like kale because they grab a piece and it tears off - like it would if they were eating it from a plant. Otherwise I'd have to chop stuff up small so they can eat it with less danger of an impacted crop.
good post!

You all are always talking about hawks and how your chickens react. Today I saw a Coopers hawk fly up and land in a tree in the back yard. I went out and chased him off. My free ranging chickens what did they do? NOTHING they did not react at all. That is the 2nd time that has happened, The first time I saw a hawk swoop in low in the back yard. I ran out and the chickens were up aganst the garage but acted like nothing was happening. I guess sooner or later one will disappear. (I hope its the hawk)
We had one here too, my guinea attacked it, and haven't seen it since.

I talked to a fellow not far from me that is selling one week old chicks from this pair of German Bielefelder chickens. He's selling a hen chick and a rooster chick for $20/pair. I'm just not sure if I need young chicks this time of year. But, they are beautiful birds.

Wow gorgeous! They are still kinda rare, @bradselig is probably a good one to ask.

Sweet dreams everyone, from miss Willow. :)
lovely girl!

Thanks pginsber for thinking of me!

Yes I do have them. I can't say enough nice things about this breed! They are so friendly and gentle and HUGE. They are great layers and lay a very pretty dark brown egg with speckles. The auto sexing is nice. They are super docile though, so if you plan to keep them in a mixed flock they may be picked on. They also eat a TON as chicks but it does level out as they age. Just something to keep in mind! $20 for a pair is very reasonable since they are still a very rare breed.
