Happy Birthday Me! This is OT but I thought I should share what I put on my FB status for today:

I'm 39 today. Here's what I know, based on the experience of those years. God is real and He loves you; the proof is everywhere. If you don't see it, it's because you don't want to, not because it isn't there. Jesus died for your sin, so that you can go back to God. It's the only way any part of life makes any sense. If you trust God while you're alive, your life will be better. The more you learn to trust God, the better it gets. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, and I'll do my best to answer.

In chicken-related news, I forgot to collect eggs last night, so I'm off to see if any of them survived the overnight temps.

@SallyinIndiana I think it was you regarding tubing for adding water to incubator. I recently bought this and found it works very well. Much quicker than using the 60cc syringe. If need be, you can still attach more tubing to it to make it longer. Ya, it isn't terrible, I just love having am chicks. Last year mine were hatched on March 17, I scheduled them close together so I could remember.

I like thin laced blues and blue with edging (which is what a vast majority of AMs have). Thick lacing is not for my taste. No solids though.

I don't think I will ever be able to decide between blue and splash. My splash AMs even have splash markings on their legs, I love it. But I also love a dark blue bird with a gray beard.

I hardly ever edit my posts or even proof read them lol. It takes too much work on my phone. My lap too barely even works anymore. It is sooooooo slow (not even exaggerating). Half the time it won't connect to the wifi and it won't let me get on some pages. Has terrible battery life. It is something internal, and using have a clue how to fix. I am not grammatically challenged lol.

Sometimes I wish they'd stay cute little fuzzies for longer... But then after some weeks into brooding, I'm grateful for the fact that they grow up and become less work.

Ooh, yes, splashy legs is a really neat effect! Have you seen the Mottled Ameraucana project birds? I've heard they are going to try and breed out the mottled pattern on their legs, which seems a shame! My two mottled girls (well, mottled and Exchequer) have that going on and it's such a nifty look!

And yeah, I probably edit more than I should... Just sometimes I realize right after I post that there's a better way to word something or that I forgot something (or that I overdid it with the smilies... )...

Pipd I hope for her. Some of my girls getting older now is getting so real here too. No where near Cubby's age! Goodness treat her like a queen. I can imagine how you feel

She has been here a long time for a chicken... I'm doing what I can to make her comfy.

Curious...how well is she eating and drinking at her age?

She's drinking normally, and eating like a cow (she's not a small hen by any means, so she probably eats normally for her size). She's been losing weight in spite of this, though, and having some issues with her droppings sticking to her vent feathers. I think it's just her age.

@pipdzipdnreadytogo   I'm pulling for Cubby to make it to her birthday!  

My favorite hen Lillian is about to turn 5, but she has slowed down a lot already.  I need to do a thorough exam on her.  She was still laying as of a couple of months ago, but she's losing condition even though she isn't very active.  I do see her out and about on the nicer days, but when it's cold, she snuggles into a nest box and stays put most of the day.  She is also doing a partial molt at a very poor time of year!  I hope she doesn't molt out more.

Yes, my Cubby's been having issues with the cold, too. She took last year's frigid cold snaps in her stride, but this year seems not to have any resilience to it as soon as it hits freezing and lower. :/ Just too hard on those old bones, I suppose! Hope your girl pulls through as well!

I don't see them gettig added anytime soon, like maybe in 30 years. I haven't even seen on at a show. They definitely catch your eye. They need more people to work on them!

I don't see them gettig added anytime soon, like maybe in 30 years. I haven't even seen on at a show. They definitely catch your eye. They need more people to work on them!

Mine brood in my bedroom because there really isn't any safer place, so that's probably why I get tired of them after a while. (Okay, I kind of like it, too. )

They're on my list behind Silvers and BBS Wheatens! I've also been eying those silkied Ameraucanas... But yeah, didn't it take about that long for the first Ams to be accepted anyway?

Her appetite is a sign that her owner has taken good care of her all these years!  It will be hard to lose her when the time comes.

What's amazing is that any of them survived 'Before I Knew Better'! But yes, good ol' Cubby's a personality that'll be hard not to miss. She's a real trouper, though. Last living of her sisters. She's a well-deserved retiree as well. I think she only laid one egg within the last year (or maybe that was the year before? either way...). That an 8 year old hen would lay an egg is pretty impressive anyway.



And on our Tilde, yes, and then she regrew her crest like the spiteful little thing she is. I was just about to post pictures, but here's one of her today. She was getting a dust bath going.

That is kind of a difficult question to answer. They were accepted in 1984. But for a young breed they have a lot of prior history. The bantams were created in the 70s. The LF have a lot more history in my opinion. There is a very lengthy article about it on the club website. It is pretty interesting, makes for a good read. I would suggest reading it
