I have similar thoughts too. But then I want chicks. Still with the cost of the medicine and the time in washing, I may experiment next hatching season instead of this one.
I ended up getting mine form here. Their grand total was the best deal. They have all of the extra there too, trays, sponges, and even though it is not listed they sell the paper hatch tray liners.

It takes time to get good breeding stock built up. Waiting to sell might be a very very good for you thing.
The trees I have gotten from arbor day in the past were shipped in the following manner:
trees were dormant but ready for planting
the roots were bare but wrapped in a paper towel which was more than damp but not dripping wet
the roots, towel and about 2 inches of the truck were slid into a plastic bag
a twisty was used to close the bag, there might have been 2 or 3 tiny condensation styled drops of water in the bag
the trees were then wrapped all together in a brown packing paper to keep out light but not tightly wrapped
all of that was tied with a thin string and slid into a vented cardboard tube container. the vents were not large about the size of half a dime and only located at the top. The package was clearly marked trees. I don't know it that changed the shipping price or not.
then they were sent in a vented tube like container. the vents wer long and narrow so not too muc
