INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Well on the hunt for a sportsman again. Had to put it off when I bought my Envoy (depleted my savings lol), but will be using portion of the tax return. If anyone runs across a good deal let me know. Ideally I'd like a new one buy would consider used for the right price.

I'm recently realizing how beautiful black chickens can be. Love the blues and, of course, I adore my splashy birds, but there's something about that gorgeous sheen on black birds... :love Good luck with the babies when they arrive! :)

Black would be my least favorite of the three, but thy are still really beautiful. I have this one black AM pullet. She is so funny, very pretty green sheen, very good bird!btw that was suppose to say NOT going to add anymore breeds or varieties.thank you they won't be her until march :(. But I guess that is ok since I need to put together some sheds and build some runs for their coops.

Long story short. I have been set back a bit. I will be lucky to have birds for sell by the end of 2015, probably more like middle of 2016 lol. No big deal-just slowing down my plans a bit!

I'm placing an order for Spring trees (my back hurts just thinking about it!) and they have a minimum order of 100 trees of each variety.  I am looking at Norway Spruce (they could potentially sub White Pine if they are low on Spruce) and Sugar Maple (maple syrup trees).  Would anyone be interested in purchasing my extras?  I would hate to throw them away and couldn't possibly plant 200! Let me know if anyone is interested.  I'm thinking $1 a tree.

I'd love to have 5-10 of each (prob 5 more feesible) if there was any way to get them to me....

Aw, well that's better than nothing, right? March'll be here in no time. :D

I think of the three, laced blues are my favorite. Solid blues, not so much. Those blue Andalusians with the super thick lacing are just so gorgeous! :love I just didn't really give much credit to the beauty of black birds until recently. :D

And let's not forget the splashy French bird that has her owner wrapped around her talons, so to speak. Though that's more in personality than in variety, I suppose.

I'm curious to see how it turns out, although personally... not sure I would prefer medicating eggs over just having some not make it naturally... But that's my personal thought on that.
I have similar thoughts too. But then I want chicks. Still with the cost of the medicine and the time in washing, I may experiment next hatching season instead of this one.

I ended up getting mine form here. Their grand total was the best deal. They have all of the extra there too, trays, sponges, and even though it is not listed they sell the paper hatch tray liners.

It takes time to get good breeding stock built up. Waiting to sell might be a very very good for you thing.

Quote: The trees I have gotten from arbor day in the past were shipped in the following manner:
trees were dormant but ready for planting
the roots were bare but wrapped in a paper towel which was more than damp but not dripping wet
the roots, towel and about 2 inches of the truck were slid into a plastic bag
a twisty was used to close the bag, there might have been 2 or 3 tiny condensation styled drops of water in the bag
the trees were then wrapped all together in a brown packing paper to keep out light but not tightly wrapped
all of that was tied with a thin string and slid into a vented cardboard tube container. the vents were not large about the size of half a dime and only located at the top. The package was clearly marked trees. I don't know it that changed the shipping price or not.
then they were sent in a vented tube like container. the vents wer long and narrow so not too muc

Ya, it isn't terrible, I just love having am chicks. Last year mine were hatched on March 17, I scheduled them close together so I could remember.

I like thin laced blues and blue with edging (which is what a vast majority of AMs have). Thick lacing is not for my taste. No solids though.

I don't think I will ever be able to decide between blue and splash. My splash AMs even have splash markings on their legs, I love it. But I also love a dark blue bird with a gray beard.

I hardly ever edit my posts or even proof read them lol. It takes too much work on my phone. My lap too barely even works anymore. It is sooooooo slow (not even exaggerating). Half the time it won't connect to the wifi and it won't let me get on some pages. Has terrible battery life. It is something internal, and using have a clue how to fix. I am not grammatically challenged lol.

Yes, I agree very much. But I have had good stock for a period of time. But bad things continue to happen to set me back. All of which is for the most part out of my control. I should have started hatching in 2013/2014, but couldn't. Obtaining good stock isn't what is holding me back here. ( I just happen to be ordering more chicks)
