INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm placing an order for Spring trees (my back hurts just thinking about it!) and they have a minimum order of 100 trees of each variety. I am looking at Norway Spruce (they could potentially sub White Pine if they are low on Spruce) and Sugar Maple (maple sugar trees). Would anyone be interested in purchasing my extras? I would hate to throw them away and couldn't possibly plant 200! Let me know if anyone is interested. I'm thinking $1 a tree.
how old or tall are the maple trees? I have a couple of trees that did not make it through the 2012 drought. I keep planing seeds from my trees but so far that has failed twice.

They said 2 to 3 years old and 12 - 20" tall. This will be my first time ordering from this particular nursery, though, so who knows what I will end up getting! I just really need some good wind breaks so I need to bite the bullet and get something in the ground for that, and the sugar maples are super pretty in the fall and getting maple syrup would be fun to try!

Well, days like today make me hopeful it might eventually warm up for the season! How many days until spring now? :fl I'm looking forward to planting and building and fixing things up!!

It's nice enough that the duckies got to go outside to swim. That made them super happy! Malcolm barely hit the water before he was splashing around and diving to the bottom and making all sorts of noise! Oh, helpful hint: don't watch ducks splash in a pool with your mouth open. :sick

And, even with the snow melting, the coop addition isn't flooding! :celebrate I must have done something right! There's still snow on the ground, though, so the girls are not happy anyway--no free range.

I decided to take old Cubby out to stretch her wings and to make sure no one was forgetting her. She waltzed right on into the chicken yard like nobody's business, didn't even turn a head as she did, and went right to chickeny things! Unfortunately, after an hour or so, so started acting off again, so I went ahead and brought her back in. She's not looking well, guys. I'm not sure if she's going to make it to her 10th birthday in a few months. :( At least for now, she's not totally isolated. Since I don't need the heated bucket plugged in, the baby monitor's back on. She's been talking to the chicken voices from the coop since she came back in. :)

Quote: I'll need to think about it for sure. The drive would cost more than the trees so it is not your price at all. Your price is more than great. If I was going to come up and get some I might get 3-4 pines to plant and protect for the goat yard. It could use another shade tree or 3. Then 2 - 4 maple trees. So in all less than $10. I could always plant the trees in buckets to start with then when larger move the best to where I want them. I wonder how long it takes a pine tree to get to be Christmas tree size.

Still this spring's big projects include DH trimming down lots of bushes and a few trees in order to put a fence up on the property line. I'm not sure I could convince him that we need more trees. He is the one that would be making the tree guards to keep the goats off the pine trees.

I might be able to meet you down by Greenwood one weekend. Maybe the timing will work out. I'll put you on the list as tentative and let you know when they are in.

That would be great too.
And Chick Crazed your bellie chicks or even eggs are extremely tempting. I just thought I let you know I keep wanting them. I am really liking the auto sexing and sweet temperament. My holdups right now are spacing for another breed and the bellies similarities to legbar chicks. In order to keep chicks distinguished I would need a separate hatcher or have to set one breed at a time. Ohh and then the is the Rhodebar breed that I'm also looking into. Chick math and Turkey math and duck math they birds all look so good. Then there is the geese I dream of having too. I just need to try out a new breed each year and eliminate the one I like the least. But that is the problem so far I like almost every breed I have tried with the intent of breeding it. The ONLY breed I actually hatched out for a bit and did not like was the hatchery RIR.

Yeah, but I don't know what these girls would have to be stressed about, living in the lap of luxury and all. She's a new layer, so I'm betting it's just getting the equipment fired up and working out the kinks that caused it.
I figured as much, I more mean what variety are you getting? ;)
I'm curious to see how it turns out, although personally... not sure I would prefer medicating eggs over just having some not make it naturally... But that's my personal thought on that.

I more wanted to say how handsome Ronin is! :drool Makes me miss my Po boy. And Lavender is lovely as well! I so love Cochins and want some more--that's another one for the 'list'! (It's not getting any shorter... )

BBS, definitely going to add any more colors or breeds.

LOL I understand completely. I wish I had more space and someone to help me with chores. The fact that more birds means more time outside doing chores is the only thing holding me back from several breeds and species!!! I also have a pet mentality so I feel the responsibility to keep any birds I have, even if I don't care for them. If I got rid of the ones I don't care for I would have lots more room!
