INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I always wash my large cooking pots/pans by hand but really do not like it ! I would die without my dishwasher! Glad for you that you got yours fixed! Relief I'm sure. Our garbage disposal got stuck a few days before Thanksgiving and it took me a few weeks before I had the time to dedicate to it, but I succeeded after a few failed attempts by my DH! He has good intentions but just doesn't have the patience or thought process for troubleshooting mechanics of certain things!

We compost all of our kitchen scraps. When we built our house a couple of years ago the plumbers couldn't believe it & thought I was crazy for not wanting to put in a garbage disposal! They said it could hurt the resale value of our house -- I told them I'm not planning on ever living anywhere else! The dishwasher, though, was a definite yes!

Speaking of compost....
Can Chickens eat Broccoli?

I had some older broccoli. I cut off any bad areas & cooked it for the chickens. (Didn't think they cold eat the hard stalks.) I just want to make sure broccoli is chicken-safe before I give it to them tomorrow.

Nothing makes it that far here. Outside animals get all our leftovers. I like the garbage disposal just for the crud that get rinsed off of the dishes prior to going in the dishwasher. I never use it for more than that. It getting "stuck" was from a plastic utensil piece had gotten lodged in it!! Who knows what it was! Lol

I just posted in the Chickenfest 2015 thread, but thought that I would also post here as well. We are currently in the planning stages of "Chickenfest 2015". I recently sent pm's to everyone listed on our members page. If you have not received one, it is because I either somehow missed you or you are not listed on the members page. So if you did not receive one and are interested in attending this years event, please send a pm to me (barb s) with the best date for you to attend. Thanks and have a fantastic day!!!

Incubator feedback needed! I am looking for a larger size incubator with automatic turner. I am going to be offering vaccinations (to those that want them) on my chicks so I want to be able to hatch more chicks in fewer batches to save on vaccine $. I really really like the looks and reviews on the Incuview, but it only handles 20 or so eggs (darnit because I REALLY like it). The other one that has my interest is the GQF 1588 Genesis Hova-Bator, but I hate the idea of spending $200 on styrofoam!!!! Are there any other good and reasonably priced bators for me to look at? I don't need a cabinet, I am not allowing myself that level of chicken math and it would get me in trouble. I would like to be able to hatch around 40 at a time.

I have thought about the option of building my own but don't really have the confidence to tackle it and don't want to waste my time building something sub par (sub par would be because of my skills, I'm not knocking home made incubators) and then having to buy something anyway.

Thoughts?

This is where I got my incubator.

Maybe a small homemade cabinet would work best for you. Perhaps a small wine cooler kind that could hold 80 or so eggs so you could set 40 at once and set every 11 days instead of every 22. Because we all know that sometimes lockdown extends to day 22 or even 23.

How hard are the home-made ones to make? And do they have a good hatch rate? Thanks for the link! There are some new options on there that I had not seen.
