INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Apparently I was a week behind or these little cuties are early! I didn't even realize they were hatched. I was done doing chores and about ready to walk out when I thought I heard some peeping -- sure enough! I saw at least 3 -- didn't pick Maggie up, though, for a full count. There were either 9 or 10 eggs under her. She kept her eggs warm enough out in the barn even with the negative temps we had recently! Gotta run to the feed store for chick feed -- wasn't prepared for this today!!

We like dishwashers so much we have two!  For our commonly used dishes, it is take it out of the clean, use it, put it in the dirty.  Then reverse. :D      Plus, when we built the house we found it was cheaper to put in the extra dishwasher than it was to have a cabinet built in that space.
I have a double drawer dishwasher and do the same thing!

How exciting! And so darn cute!

Never thought about that. Our new dishwasher doesn't have the capacity of the old one. We can no longer run it at the end of the day b/c it fills up after 2.5 meals - not 3. Some days it runs 2xs per day; most days, I have some left-over dirty dishes waiting in the sink for the washer to free up.

Our friends (family of 10) are renting a house w/o a dishwasher. Yes, it's as bad as it sounds. (There are ALWAYS dirty dishes in the sink.) The good news is that it's temporary. They plan to move this spring.

I have not made a homemade incubator. I'm not positive it would save much money since I would need to buy all of the parts. I'm keeping my eyes on CL for a wine cooler but until I have that I'm not looking for the rest. And a kit would make it much simpler so I lose any savings there as well. BUT if done correctly, homemade might be better. Homemade cookies and biscuits and bread all turn out much better. The chicken coops I like the best are the ones we made. Homemade allows for customizing and that might be worth it for you since you want a size not offered everywhere in plastic for a cheap amount.

Incubator feedback needed! I am looking for a larger size incubator with automatic turner. I am going to be offering vaccinations (to those that want them) on my chicks so I want to be able to hatch more chicks in fewer batches to save on vaccine $. I really really like the looks and reviews on the Incuview, but it only handles 20 or so eggs (darnit because I REALLY like it). The other one that has my interest is the GQF 1588 Genesis Hova-Bator, but I hate the idea of spending $200 on styrofoam!!!! Are there any other good and reasonably priced bators for me to look at? I don't need a cabinet, I am not allowing myself that level of chicken math and it would get me in trouble. I would like to be able to hatch around 40 at a time.

I have thought about the option of building my own but don't really have the confidence to tackle it and don't want to waste my time building something sub par (sub par would be because of my skills, I'm not knocking home made incubators) and then having to buy something anyway.

Thoughts?

I have experience building the coolerbators...so if you need any help just let me know and I can walk you along...there great

you can comfortably hatch 30 in a cooler and if you use a fridge you can hatch way more....don't waste your money on expensive incubators....you can build your own that is prolly more accurate then the ones you can buy...all you gotta do is know what to buy...and how to install it
