I also got 3 frizzleds out of the 7 chicks I hatched! So excited to see how they turn out.

My boy is a displaying fool!! Lol! I just hope my hen appreciates him as much as I do! I'm really hoping she hatches a clutch this year!

Went out to the coop and had 4 girls in next boxes! The wait for spring is killing me! I've honestly been considering adding light to get them started. Pulling all the Roos out and not putting them back together until breeding pens are built! I was surprised to see my spring hatch Blue Copper Marans girl has layed her second egg. I was wondering who layed the first one. Caught her today. Small pullet egg but love the speckles. It's the 2 eggs on the far left. Nice dark color. Pics are a little lighter than true color.

This is the young girl. Far left.

All gorgeous! I would love to keep peas again. I am thinking I need to hatch this time, may be in the market for eggs

Wow!! great looking roo, congrats on the frizzles!

I have a broody hen. All was going well with her and her chicks until about 3 days back. That is when I noticed a bit of pasty rear on 3 of her 11 chicks. These chicks are 2.5 weeks old. Pasty rear should not be an issue. But now 3 days later their rears are bare skinned and covered in white goo. It is not hardened as it would be in a day old pasty rear.
Should I take the chicks and clean them. If I clean them do I give the chicks back to the broody? Do I just take over raising these 11 chicks and toss the broody back into her original pen with her prior hen buddies?

Personally I would clean them or pick it off and watch them closely. I would bet after a week old you won't see it be a problem anymore and all is happy in the world of mama raising her chicks! ;)

Sounds like they have some type of yeast infection. That can be contagious for the rest of the chicks, how does momma's bum look? For adult hens with this condition they recommend cleaning the bottom, applying yeast infection cream, adding apple cider vinegar with the mother (Braggs) to their drinking water & either add a probiotic to their drinking water or give them plain active culture yogurt once a day for like 3 to 4 days. I sure hope someone with more experience will post with a solution. Good luck, hope they get better soon.
