You might consider sending her for an autopsy. It will give you some piece of mind and help you treat or prepare in case another chicken starts showing these same symptoms. DON'T USE PURDUE!!!! I've done them through both Purdue and the University of Missouri (Springfield I believe). It is much cheaper through the University of Missouri (Less than $50 if I remember correctly) and they turned results around very fast. Purdue was a nightmare and 3x the cost.

I'd like a little advice from those of you who garden. I've been planting a small garden for the last several years, usually the basics, tomatoes, jalapeños, bell peppers, green beans (teepee), broccoli.

This year I'm going to be getting some seeds from Bakers, I've been browsing the website all morning. Wow, what a huge selection. I had no clue there were so many choices.

I'm looking for recommendations your favorite tomato varieties. Red, purple, yellows. Cherry/grape tomatoes?

What about peppers?

My garden's been slowly getting bigger over the years, but I still don't call myself a gardener. As for tomatoes, I really like the small sweet ones. Since the wild cherry tomatoes are very abundant, I simply move my "weeds" to where I want them to grow. The volunteers are very hardy & free.

just check out the site I gave you in the one reply...seems like the chicken that just got sick and I had to tube feed it...similar symptoms and everything....check out the forum I sent you a couple of pages ago...there is a lot of pics for you to look at....and normally when a chicken is acting down but still alive the damage is already done....chickens don't let you know they are sick....and normally you have a short window to intervene otherwise death is right around the corner....seems like that just happens in the winter with chickens...I always loose some during these months...so sorry for your losses

We make a lot of salsa and spaghetti sauce here so the Roma tomatoes are a must here. As for green beans (lol I know you didn't ask) we and everyone else who ever shares or I give to absolutely love the big flat Italian Roma bush beans!! We are also lovers of the California Bell, chili,jalepeno, jabenaro and banana peppers.

I came home today to a young one of two I just put out a week ago. They are about 4 mos old though, it was in the front yard all fluffed up very weak and when I picked him up he was so thin! I don't think it's been eating or drinking much. The first 3 days I carried both of them to the water and made sure they knew where it was but every time one of the big girls even looked his way he screeched and hid at my feet. The other could care less. I brought him in and he ate and drank but barely able to stand. Now he's jumping out of the box. I also gave corid in his water just in case but his poo looks fine. I had put feeders in the coop which I never do, just so they would have easy access and with free ranging my girls/guys never go in there during the day unless to lay. So I'm not sure why he's so thin all of a sudden. No parasites that I could see. Other little guy is all cuddled in between some bantams for the night and because they are bantams the LF don't pay any attention to them. So I know they aren't getting picked on. At least not bad enough to harm them. No blood etc.

They say regardless of age if a different strain of Cocci is introduced it can make them deathly ill. I've definitely had my fair share in the winter months over the years of just finding one had passed without any prior symptoms. I keep a close eye on them as I work from home most days.

Just keep watch over the others and check at night for mites. Those can suck the life right out of them while they sleep and is another reason she may have been hesitant to go in the coop at night. Just a thought.

Loved all the pictures!

I did great on our first hatch, 1 dud! Will be locking down week 2 tomorrow, and very excited to see what I have.
So far, I am only hatching LO, they are laying regular and cooped separately from the main flock.

The owner knows I will do our best to place them, but he realizes I free range 24/7 also. I have had a few pms already, one is closer to you.. will pm once details are clearer.

I will. So far our plans are BB turkey and CX chicken on orders, but if we add any heritage I will holler.
