INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thank you!

I can't believe how much I love him!  LOL! He has such a wonderful personality. When he gets excited and jumps around like a puppy it is a real laugh, because he's so BIG.

I've heard they will roam if they don't have a fence. He will stay in our yard unless we take him for a walk. I bet your mom goes crazy having to chase her dog down! I guess they get bored, though.

I installed an invisible fence for her ..well technically we did it together...haha..no she doesn't chase him. Hers is huge ..I call him "Bus"..she named him Marley cuz he's a trouble maker since a pup. He is a good dog though. She got him a year before having to put her other down. He lived 12 or 13 yrs! A very long time for the breed. He was never fenced but like I said they have 300 acres.
This is "Bus"

My mom probably wouldn't appreciate me posting pics of her so shhhh...don't tell her! Lol!

Oh my gosh!!! I am glad we got a "runt." He is only 90 lbs!

Your mom is beautiful, too, btw. ;)

Speaking of the d'uccles. Forgot to kindly remind everyone that of the 6 I belive 4 have homes. That leaves 2 that will need a forever home! ;)
I've not decided which one I'm keeping yet...I just adore them all but I kinda feel like I shouldn't be sending the one that's losing toes anywhere?? I don't know what to do about that.

If anyone is interested in one please let me know. I won't be sending them anywhere until I know they are all healed up. I'm guessing another week at least.

I will take some individual pics the next nice day we have when I can have them posed all pretty!

I commented maybe on Facebook but I can definitely take one since it looks like I will be putting in a Batchelor pad for some of Kelly's silkie roos anyway :)

Great! I know you mentioned their quality and I hadn't posted pics yet so I wasn't sure if they were good quality or not Or if you'd still be interested.

Again I expect a week before they are healed enough that I'll be willing to let them go. I'll PM you for more info.

Thanks

happy hoosiers ~ Many of us use the deep litter method for runs. I use the dirt from the ground, pea gravel, and some pine shavings. I've used mulch, too, when a neighbor's tree had to be cut down.
Rural King has children's metal rakes and hoes. The ends are metal and they are great for scraping poop and raking litter. My last hoe broke after 2.5 years, so I'm glad to have a new one~ very handy!

@ellymayRans So now both of the Cochin/Olive Eggers that you'll be getting are broody. At first, I thought the second one was just hanging out with her sister, but they've both been serious broodies. Today, I thought I'd better clean out the bottom of the bantam coop since they've been parked at the far end where it's hard to reach. When I removed all of the old pine shavings, they ran out. That's when all noticed all of their eggs they've been sitting on!! I scooped the eggs up and put them in a flower pot dish. I guess I'll scramble them for the chickens since I'm not sure if they're safe for human consumption. Anyway, the two hens were so upset, and I felt horrible for disturbing them (even though they're not sitting on fertilized eggs). I also lightly dabbed the ends of their tail feathers with camphor oil where they were pecked-- hoping that will keep the others from bothering them. Maybe I can come up at the end of this week. I hate for them to sit on eggs for no reason.

@kittydoc ~ I can relate to having a chicken hospital set up in a daughter's room! When my kids flew the coop, their bedrooms came in handy.

Lol! Yeah I've got a broody pair of silkies! Your pics are great! Love them nestled working as a team! Hahaha! Those eggs are great! I am still trying to decide if I want to breed bantam Olive Eggers as I have a bantam male I can pair them with or if I go LF. Either way I'll be excited to have them here! Thanks for keeping me posted on them! Lovin' it!

When we first got our chickens via USPS, the shipment included several 'packing peanuts'. One survived, and her name is Peanut.
She's a bantam black orpington. Beautiful girl. Her feathers are so black they have a green/blue sheen in the light, and her eggs are my favorite. They are a shiny cream color and the perfect size for an egg sandwich.

She's the only bantam in a flock of 8 LF, and she was the bossiest when all the chickens were pullets. She went broody 2 winters ago and we did didn't force her out of it. We waited and let nature take it's course. That year, she only laid about 10 eggs all year. She went broody again last February, and we gave her eggs to hatch. Since that hatch, she's been as sweet as pie, and a laying machine. She's much nicer and pleasant to be around in general.

ANYWAY--that was a long background to get to this point...

She's broody AGAIN and I'd like her to get back to laying ASAP. If anybody has eggs they need to hatch, I'm offering her warm backside and mothering nature. We don't want to keep any of the chicks (or ducks or peafowl or whatever) she hatches. We just want her to get back to the business of laying eggs. If you have any eggs that you'd like to make into chicks, please PM me as quick as you can. We'll get some eggs 'cooking' under her.
