INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

aHello everyone, first time chicken owner and was wondering if Anyone know if roos are allowed in Howard County? I'm outside the city limits and I know I can have chickens just not sure if I can have a roo or not? I recently picked up some pullets and I believe at least one might be a roo.

Does anyone know how I would go about finding a house to rent where they will allow me to keep my 5 hens? My husband is relocating to greenfield, Indiana so we would want to be somewhere between there and rushville.

Re Howard County, I found this article:
Should Howard County Relax Rules on Raising Backyard …

While searching for answers for both of you, I ran across this site, which didn't help, but I sent feedback when I saw this: Please contact BOAH with your suggestions for making this list more helpful, accurate and complete. Contact here. I sent this message: I belong to the BackYard Chickens (byc.com) Indiana Thread. We often receive inquires about whether various Indiana cities and counties allow backyard chickens, and what their ordinances state. It's difficult to find answers, especially up-to-date information. It would be so helpful if you listed Backyard Chicken Ordinances -- whatever you can list would be a benefit.
It wouldn't hurt if others would take a minute to send them a request.
@pipdzipdnreadytogo So sorry to hear about Cubby. 10 years is amazing! You're a great mom.

@pginsber I've often thought of your Peanut since I've had my own miniature bantam Black Cochin! They look a lot alike!
(Peanut on the left, "Screech" -her new name- on the right) Screech has a pouf like Peanut, but you can't see it in this photo. Screech looks similar to her "mother" Bonbon- Bantam Chocolate Eng. Orp. She and her mother are close. @kabhyper1
Were you the one with Mother/Daughter Cochins who were big buddies?

@racinchickins I like that the waterer is elevated, but I wonder how stable it is.

Sigh.....already have a broody turkey hen. At least this one will let me pull eggs out from underneath her without removing strips of skin. I was planning on building a nest house that I could block off from the others once things dry out, but oh no, she couldn't wait. Not sure what I'm going to do now. I'm pretty sure you can't move a broody turkey like you can a chicken.
I moved just the broody turkey hen today to a new pen. So far she has not taken to the new nest. For now I have some mixed backyard eggs in the nest. My plans are to swap out those eggs with Turkey eggs on the 23rd if she takes to sitting on the nest. She has to be on the nest though as the turkey eggs are started and in my incubator.

Thanks for the welcome the Howard County you had was for MD not IN...lol and that's my problem each time I look for info I keep getting MD not IN info so that's why I thought I'd post here to see if anyone would know.

I picked up two new waterers at TSC tonight. I liked the design the price is crazy high for a waterer but I thought I would try it.
I really like them so far and if you have seen them but didn't want pay the price imo they are pretty good.
Here they are

They run $14.99

@SallyinIndiana
I wonder if these work on the same principle that your waterers from Premier do? I'd be interested to take a look to see if they have the same design.

Rural King has children's metal rakes and hoes. The ends are metal and they are great for scraping poop and raking litter. My last hoe broke after 2.5 years, so I'm glad to have a new one~ very handy!
I use the same children's rake too! They are real tools - just smaller size and they work great when you're trying to rake to turn litter in a "shed-sized" chicken house where a regular length rake is hard to fit in and use without bumping into walls, etc.

THIS LITTLE RAKE IS VERY LIKELY THE BEST CHICKEN KEEPING TOOL I'VE EVER BOUGHT!

Got mine at Menards.

They have a styrofoam float with a little plug stopper. So far they seem to work great! I'd like to see a larger capacity (and lower cost).

The last couple of times she has tried to go broody I moved her to attempt to break her of it. But it only lasts for a few days to a week then back on the nest she sits. I'm hoping she is sitting good by the 23rd. I want to try and see if she can hatch a few turkey eggs.
