INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

A GOAT question for you goat people.

I'd like to see photos of any shelters that you use with your goats during the summer. I'm not planning on having the goats use the barn and their shelter will be at the edge of the wooded area. Right now I have 2 of those half circle metal shelters that you often see used for hogs. I was going to place one of those out there for them.

But my concern is where I would put any feed/mineral so that it could be in a dry area.

Initially I think they will get most their food from browse in the woods, but I want to be prepared with some kind of area that mineral and/or hay could go that's not in the rain/weather.

So any ideas that you've used - or seen - that would give me some ideas that aren't time/labor intensive to put together a sheltered feed area would be great!

Calf huts work great, you could build covered grain/mineral feeder self standing that would stay mostly dry. My goats don't let the grain sit long enough to get to wet and ruin lol.
This is a great idea made from little lumber and a plastic barrel cut in half. This is not mine but gives you a idea.

Update on 25 CornX 9 days old. AVG weight 5.822oz. in just 4 days they have gained 2.72oz
The heaviest chick came in at 8.30oz and the smallest was 4.25oz. These birds just amaze me so fun to watch them grow out.

Thanks!

Some time ago I found this video and thought it was a great idea for feeding hay. Now if I could just figure out an easy way to make it free-standing with a little roof like you show there. I guess I need to have my husband look at it and see if he can devise a little roofed "feed hut". that work with something like this. Or maybe not...just something that doesn't waste a lot.

Gosh I'm sooo glad the beautiful green grass is back and I almost forgot how lovely the spring flowering trees are this time of year!
Snapped a few shots this evening of the Peas as the rain had let up...temporarily I'm sure.

These were taken a different day. Funny how the little ones try showing off...they will be a year old in June! Time flies!
So I've been trying to figure out how to watermark pics and haven't found anything I am smart enough to use yet! Lol..but my phone had an option for adding a label to a pic. How does it look??

So, I sent MyPetChicken.com a video of my little crowing chicken.
They accidentally forwarded me their internal email chain, accusing me of being a liar.
I will NOT be giving them another $ of my money!
Two mistakes last year, canceling my Olive Eggers and sending me a roo this year...I lived with all of that, but I draw the line at being called a liar.

My email was to ask them when the period would be for my order, so I could revisit whether or not he was still acting like a male at that point.
Everything was fine until they forwarded me an email chain from Mary Jane to Jordana, one employee to another. When I read that, I was very offended.
leslea ~ MyPetChicken is very foolish for questioning your video, but also for accidentally sending you an internal email. It especially amazes me when an established company like MyPetChicken thinks that a sale of one chicken is more valuable that an unhappy customer. Fortunately, nowadays customers have a voice I hope you post your experience EVERYWHERE on social media, etc. as an example that their customers aren't important to them. Coincidentally, their website AND their Facebook page doesn't include customer reviews! lol BYC has some MyPetChicken review threads where you can be heard.

The buff/buff barred/calico? Batam Cochin chicks. Loving the frizzled buff hen!

@bradselig Your Showgirl is beautiful, I must admit. I like the contrast between the fuzzy white and leathery black. "IMO" ~ a Silkie is the only breed of Naked Neck I admire, though. Love your Orps, too-- someday I'll have a frizzle chicken!
@jchny2000 ~ That's sad that you're giving up your OEGBs, but at least you'll know they're getting the attention they need-- and you can visit them.

Great day did 5k in martinsville. Go Danville see family. Finish day going to Bloomington and end up buying a couple of brahmas. One silky for sure don't know what other one is.
Sounds like a wonderful day!! You'll have to post photos.
On to happier things and then bed! Yesterday we began a new adventure and got 3 poults from Blue Palm Eggs (they could be Blue, Royal or Slate) from SallyinIndiana. So precious! Meet Anastasia, Victoria and Sir Tomas (pronounced Toe-Mahs after my begging, if we do indeed have a Tom, to PLEASE not name him Tom!) No we don't know their sex, the names are just wishful thinking

Their favorite activity so far is hair styling - all three were trying to crawl into my hair! The chicks never have done this!

They also are really good at tickling:

Adorable photos! So, I assume you're talking about Blue Palm TURKEYS? I bet your malcontent neighbors will freak out when they lay their eyes on turkeys! LOL

Question for the goofball! About to get some Polish. Is this one a white crested black? I see some Polish with all white and some with black and white crests. Are they all just variations of white crested black?

What gorgeous pictures with the fresh spring glowing through! I like both the labels. Depending on the pic you can choose top or bottom and not detract from the picture.

[/quote She is thinking "with a face like this why would you want a picture of anyone else!"
Here's my little photo-bomber. It irritates her when I attempt to take a pic of another chicken.
