INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

:lau OH MY I LOVE THIS! :gig

This is my coop made from privacy fence panels. Ive always had a poop coop. My first one 20 years ago had the potty seats inside. Cute and clever yes, pain in the butt (pun intended lol) to keep clean. The new one will never have them. Good place for bugs and bacteria to hide.

Hello fellow hoosiers.
I am so excited I just found out that it is okay to have chickens in porter county! Wating to call animal control to see if there are any coop specs I will have to follow. So if all goes well I, will have chickens this year. yay.

Welcome ldymelissande! Do you know what kind(s) you want?

What does everyone think of the facebook merger with BYC? I don't want them to, Icould see FB taking over definitely. If they do work together ( why else would they mention it). We should just start a Hoosier Chickens Website.

400
. Almost done with the bantam addition to the coop. Just need to put on a couple doors. Planning on moving them in Friday :)

Crafty chick~ It sounds like it will happen regardless because the bottom line is that BYC will make a ton of money partnering/or being bought out by FB. Starting our own site would be a huge undertaking. BYC already has everything set up-- uploading photos, PMs, alerts, all kinds of options and services already set up. There are many cities that already have FB chicken sites, so it would probably be beneficial to combine everything. The exciting part I think is promoting chickens as great pets . . . That's my two cents anyway. : - )

Kristy G~ I think you mentioned that you are making a new coop. We ours was constructed, hardware wire cloth was extended down into the ground several inches and curved forward, making it difficult to gain access if a predator tried to dig down.
Chick-n-farmer~ We use galvanized Fencing Staples to secure hardware wire cloth and are careful not to drop any staples or hardware pieces that could result in a chickens "hardware death."

Too fast~ I noticed your cat in your photos . . . Our chickens chase our cats who try to avoid them if possible. haha

Little Amer Mom~ Congrats on your gosling hatching project!

Congrats on finding out you can have chickens!!

My parents' land is where my brothers and I will keep our chickens and they have seen coyotes in the middle of the day!!! I'll have to do lots of research to ensure a safe home for them!

i just ordered a thermometer/hygrometer from incubator warehouse. It is a remote system. Has anyone used this particular one? I've not had much luck with accurate hygrometers.
