INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

:) :) :) I can't see the emoticons here for some reason.

Get this, after all that stress, the other hatching eggs arrived today! I was so concerned for the breeder, I thought something must have happened to her. I suspect now that maybe she was having computer issues, I don't know.

But I was so very excited.

Now I have called my Mennonite friend who will put these in her incubator for a fee; that was our plan. The 6 Legbar eggs went to @Racinchikins this morning, my DH dropped them off and got to meet him. I think he'll do well with our eggs, excited about those pretty legbars.

Now the legbars will probably be the only sane looking chickens in our flock (f these eggs do hatch).

The ones from second breeder will make up the main flock:
Gold Brabanters, Mottled Houdans, and she slipped in some for a surprise. I suspect what they may be and am excited ---but what do you think they are? It's marked "TB"

Then there were 3 "mystery eggs" which aren't labeled. May or may not find out what they are when they hatch, ha.

I think this will be a funny, crazy flock. I hope we get good hatch rates with a lot of PULLETS!!

:) Can't you just sense my excitement? After all this time the eggs are here. Now wait to see what we get.

I will also probably be letting my mottled orps. Year old hen and quite a few younger birds. All appear to be pullets. 2 are black split for mottled. Pm for more info.

You'll have some fancy looking chickens! I learn something new-- hadn't heard of Brabanters before. The have a cool leopard look!
@bradselig With egg prices going way up, you might want to keep your pullets and sell eggs!
@pginsber I meant to tell you that my sister in Louisville normally pays $5 a carton for farm eggs (you had mentioned San Fran's $4 price). It will be interesting to see how store eggs and farm eggs soar in price.

True, but I'm kinda looking at the future as well (new job? Moving? buying vs renting? Etc.)

Do you recall what age they started to lay? I looked up several hatcheries and they list anywhere from 15 weeks up to the following spring.. pretty wide opinion on them!
Mine were laying around 6 mos. About the same as the other ducks I have.

Oh, and had two more Pekins hatch this morning. Utter doll babies :D

Isn't he just the cutest?

I really adore that picture in particular, too!

I think he's entering his awkward phase at this point, though.

Getting a bit gawky and awkward. Hopefully he'll emerge from this phase as a handsome young duck.

He's still a cutie, anyway.

Is that a splash Marans I spy?

Such a pretty little girl, reminds me of my Frou-Frou at that age!

I can't help you with your question about GCM behavior as I've never had a Marans rooster, but hopefully someone else has.

Cute duckling!

Oh, my goodness, yes. She is a dead ringer for Frou-Frou minus the black spot on the beak. My son named her Jamie (after James Bond) and she is the sweetest of the new chicks. She is the only one I can consistently catch on the first try, and that my little girl can scoop up to carry around (like she does the silkies). She is definitely a fave. I like her light pink comb and beak, too. What does Frou-Frou look like now?
