INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Morning everyone! I got all of my youngsters sorted last night. 9 obvious roosters that will go for processing October 30th. I wouldn't be surprised if another few late bloomers showed up. 9 roosters out of 28 youngsters seems like way too good a female ratio to me! The Bielie mix roos could be processed now at 15 weeks. They are HUGE. The others are still a bit small. I am hoping they hit a growth spurt in the next 6 weeks!

Work has been insane, I volunteered for a super intense project in a bid to get some attention and a possible promotion. It is going well but is keeping me super busy and the stress level is high. I am also prepping to put down the old horse in the next couple of weeks. I have one more vet appointment on Friday to see if there is anything I missed or anything else to try. I am sad and stressed about that as well. I hate having to make that decision. He is 28 years old. :(

Hope everyone is well!

Anyone else's chickens molting? I've got a couple of lt brown leghorns that look awful! And out of 26 laying hens I got 5 eggs yesterday :( hopefully I will keep a few laying through winter since I keep picking up new egg customers!

@racinchickins @pbirdhaven and other turkey keepers... My bourbon tom is starting a hard molt. Looked in on them this morning, and oh my!! I almost thought someone tried to pluck him! Neck is bare and part of the breast has dropped feathers already. My question is if he is still going to be breeding? Hens are not moulting yet. Am going to watch eggs close to see if they are coming up infertile.
I'm not sure. All my toms molted when the girls went broody and there was nobody to impress. They are just now growing their tails back. The molt took a long time. Another thing to watch for is if he is rubbing against the fence to show off to birds outside the pen. My boys rubbed all the feathers off their breasts that way. Looks terrible and had me panicking until I figured out what caused it.

I am so sorry about your horse - those decisions are so hard.

I've had at least one hen in molt since early July. They've been taking turns. One of my Welsummers just finished, and she looks great. I have a few girls with no feathers from overmating that I hope molt soon so they don't look so terrible. There will be many fewer boys after this weekend to cause problems for them.

I need help sexing 2 of my silkies. I hatched them from eggs I got from @kabhyper1 back in April so they are now almost 24 weeks old. I keep going back and forth because they have decent sized combs, but big round puff balls and they are of good size.

So should it be Jethro and Tony, or Ziva and Zoe?

I'm really confused on this one because they have not started laying eggs or crowing yet?
