INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Quote: Thank you for coming over. Its makes the day go so much better when there is someone there to talk to. And thank you for sticking around to help me finish with my birds!

After seeing how the dark Cornish dressed out I'm thinking pretty hard about adding some of them to my flock next year as well. I'm considering a smaller coop for raising some of my own meat birds. Thinking Cornish and Bresse will be added here next year
Totally agree on the Dark Cornish. The finished bird looks a lot like what you get with a Cornish X without all the mess and mortality. Takes longer to grow out, but the results look to be worth it. I Will be talking with Janet about eggs for next year.

Quote: I didn't realize that way you either! We were pretty heads down to finish the processing, but I would have taken time to at least give you the tour if I had realized it. And processing definitely isn't for everyone. I have a few 'pets' that will never have to worry about processing time, but most of my birds have a purpose, and I just try to make sure they have a great life and only one 'bad day'. I totally respect people who can't do it, it all depends what you want to get out of your flock.

I'm thinking about the process and there might come a time when I have a few birds that won't sell and that I shouldn't keep at that point I'd be at a loss because I think personally I just don't have it in me I freaked out and had bad dreams for like three days after I had to put a chick down(it was recommended I just break it's neck by twisting ended up pulling its head off which is a horrible way to kill your first chicken) so it's possible I may hire someone to do it all for me elsewhere preggo is also extremely sensitive she cried for like ten minutes at the sight of a dead spider she's really afread of them

I'm getting a 4x6 shed in a couple a weeks, been looking for ideals in the coop pages, on how to turn it into a coop for My lone Cochin, BCM and a FBM. I cant find anything even close to my size. Lots of good ideals but none give me anything on saving space, they are all bigger sheds with lots more room to play with.
anyone have any links I can check out?

Ugh...so having my silkies in a large dog kennel just proved to be disastrous! I'm so sad! One of my partridge hens was dead with her head hung through the cage! I don't understand. .she had blood in her mouth. The kennel has pretty good sized holes. It's one of the largest cages you can get. We had it from our large great Dane from years ago.

I have an acquaintance that wants to get some baby chicks as soon as possible. However...they must be sexed and pullets only. They only want 3. Egg layers only. Hatchery quality is fine. (I'd prefer BR, Reds, etc....something that will lay well.)

So...has anyone ordered any sexed pullet egg layer chicks that may be willing to sell 3 of them? If so, please pm me.

(They can either be here already or ordered to arrive within the next couple weeks.)

EDITED - I SEE YOURS IS 4X6 SO MINE IS ABOUT DOUBLE YOURS. I didn't notice your measurements for some reason. If you just take the left half of mine, that's about the same size so I'm going to not post the photos here. If you want to look at it, check out this link:

I have seen your coop and run pic's someplace before, do you have them posted in the coops pages here on BYC? I love it only wish I had one that big. will go check out your link now thanks.

@Leahs Mom your coop side is bigger but it is kind of like what mine is, longer then it is wide. So if I put my nest boxes ( don't even know if they are hens ? ) across the back ( 4' part ) and somehow put a perch along the side ( 6' part ) I don't know how I could get a ladder to the perch and still have room to go in and clean or collect eggs or whatever I need to do. As far as the chickens go I think that way would work and they would still have enough floor space, but for me getting in and out without a big headache, that is why I am looking for ideals. What do you think?

If you could pick them up I have some Dominique's which are similar to barred rocks I bought 6 but don't really need that many they are all pullets and apperently rare or rarer
