INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Aww pretty little one! Looks like she is real happy on momma's arm. If you temps are staying in the upper 40s you may be ok. I get all spazzed and check on them a gazillion times the first few days they go outside. My LO's went outside to their coop tonight, and I have been worrying nonstop.

Some of my birds are here for the freezer, and some of the hogs, no worries. Its all in what everyone's comfort zone is, there's nothing wrong with having opinions or thoughts.. The hog we will process this coming weekend "Bacon" Is my very first pig, I have to have my brother to come over to do "it". I just cannot be the one to pull the trigger. Bacon has been here since last august, and he is like a 300 pound puppy. Its going to be hard for me, he gets belly rubs and lovins, plays with his bowling ball. The chickens ride on his back! But, he is here for a purpose and has had a very good life. I think that's the important part of all of this, give all of the animals quality of life and love, and appreciate them for gracing our tables and our hearts.

I couldn't agree more. I would rather consume an animal I cared for than one that had a commercial farm life. All my critters have a purpose as well. My husband slaughters most of our animals and I clean them up. I raise them, so it is hard for me to "pull the trigger" After the light is gone my brain can perceive them as just meat instead of the sweet baby I raised.
