Congrats on another successful day!The pea rescue was a success again today. My mom went with me to help. We caught 9. We saw/counted another 15. I'm sure there were others we just didn't see while counting the ones we could see.
5 males and 4 females. So another 4 pair.
That makes 5 pair that are needing homes.
These will be housed for 1 month for quarantine and I will start them on de wormer ect this week.
I've still not heard from anyone interested in adopting so that's something I will need to advertise more I guess.

unfortunately it is becoming the norm around here, but this is only the 2nd roo in as many years. I do take in rescues, but they are normally of the hoved verity. Is it common for people to just drop off an animal at your home?
Last month I had someone ask if I'd take in a pet hen, but never did someone abandon one. I had to say No to the hen, because I was trying to sell my remaining extras before winter. The unwanted chicken was kept in an apartment & the only pet. About 5-6 mo old & had trouble walking. The owners received it for free. I still scratch my head when I hear about situations like this. Why would anyone take a chick if they weren't planning on owning a chicken & why would someone give a single chick away to people so clueless? Believe it or not, but it's the 3rd time someone came to me in a similar situation. I can understand rehoming an unexpected roo, but getting a chick without the means to care for it is crazy. Of course, abandoning a roo on someone else's property is also crazy. That's why I ask if it happens often. Are you known to take in rescue animals?
Can you post pictures or send me pictures I might be able to help rehome some but would have to win some people over with cutie pics

This time though it was an escapee roo from 4 doors down. DH finally got a hold of them and it was his so the visiting roo went home.![]()
Agrarian gets calls from people asking where to buy birds. Maybe let Andrew know that you have some peas. Another option might be to call a wedding coordinator or special events person. They might now of people wanting peas to rent out as fancy party guests. much like swans. And of course there is always craigslist. Just list the price about 10% higher on craigslist as people treat it similar to a flea market and want a discount just for asking for a discount. The pea rescue was a success again today. They sure are gorgeous! Wish I could help but I can't handle any more species/animals all by myself!! Know thy limits!!!!
Kind of a random suggestion, but you might reach out to the fort wayne and Indy zoos. I know zoos often have them all over the grounds and the care would be phenomenal!
If you want to send me a flyer with some pictures and information, I can put it up on some of our bulletin boards around campus. We have a TON of people with livestock and chickens (ag company) and several thousand people on campus. I'd be happy to donate my time walking around putting up fliers!
